WINE&CUPCAKE PAIRING??? YESSS PLEASEEEEE!!!
Thank goodness I stalk my yelp elite friend, Muy S., on facebook! I suggested this place to my sister and she wanted to go as well. This place is located on the busy street of los olives next to Enjoy Cupcake (where they get the cupcakes).
First you buy the cupcakes then walk over to the bar. They'll give you a list of the wines you'll be tasting and you start with the lightest cupcake (in our case it was the honey tangerine).
:: CUPCAKE :: (6 for $10) you can't choose what you want: s'mores stuffed cheescake Honey tangerine Chocolate blackberry syrah Chocolate Pumpkin spice with pecan (loved) Vanilla Mango Salted Caramel Ginger Snap (my favorite)
:: PROS :: CUPCAKES
:: CON :: Service wasn't bad but it could have been better, I guess showing up a little before busy hour wasn't enough time for them to be social with us.
:: TIP :: 4 of us shared 1 flight of cupcakes and that was enough to satisfy us.
Overall it was a fun experience. The name of the wines were creative, brotherhood, bride, groom, uncles (?), etc. I wasn't too fond of the wine though :/ most of them went...
Read moreI will start with the positive… the ambiance and outdoor seating was great. Beautiful atmosphere and vibe. Beware… the cupcake pairing is simply that you get the same amount of cupcakes as you do for a flight of wine. The tasting constitutes of a girl pouring the wines and explaining the labels and not anything regarding the wine.
Oh! Did I mention we didn’t get the cupcakes until we were well into our 4th wine because they ran out, or that no one except the cupcake girl (who I was told more than once is a separate business than the vineyard) was willing to explain the format or show any kind of customer service ? I should point out we didn’t care for any of the wines, which was a bummer because we drove up to stock up on cases before the summer.
I’ll end with that the flight display was cute with little milk bottles and the cupcakes were ABSOLUTELY fabulous! Bottom line, it’s a cute place for a picture opportunity & cupcake, but you may want to purchase your...
Read moreMy husband and I were attracted to Saarloos & Sons because of an ad online for cupcake + wine pairings! The wine tasting 'room', more like home, was absolutely enchanting. Lots of beautiful textures, surfaces, and artwork made the environment very friendly, inviting and fun! It was a blistering hot day and the cool slightly shady interior made us never want to venture out to try more wines. The wines themselves were the stars!! Beautifully delicious wines with delightful labels. This winery really stands out from all the rest. (And we do a lot of wine tasting from Napa to Monterey.) Our tasting room hostess was an absolute dream! We shared with her that we were on our way to LA with a case of wine, she helped us to rescue our overheating case of wine from our car. She kept it cool while we went to investigate the neighborhood a little! We had a wonderful adventure in Los Olivos, but Saarloos & Sons was definitely the highlight of our day!! We'll be...
