If you care at all about the wine itself when visiting Los Olivos, you have to be selective. It's a town made up over between 50-100 tasting rooms, so it's a wonderful day of wine tasting. But of course, if you're drinking responsibly, there's only so many you can hit in a day so you need to be selective and knowing where to go can be overwhelming.
I highly recommend you put Dragonette Cellars on your short list of tasting rooms to hit up. They have a super hip vibe about them that has a lot of folks talking. I was a bit worried at first that the name was some type of gimmick (as wines with gimmicky names are ALWAYS bad)... but worry not as it's actually their last name! They have a small crew here who is REALLY passionate about their wine and truly felt like a family. That really means something to me. Let's face it... wine making is a rich man's sport, so it's really off putting when you have vineyards who you can tell just treat the their staff like the help... and here appears to be quite the opposite where the staff has as much pride in the brand as the owners. In fact, they are actually a part of the wine making for one of their bottles! I have to be honest... that goes a long way in the overall positive vibe of this place. It was a pleasure to be in there! We were attended to by not one, but several staff members and they were all fantastic.
And the wine was high quality too! Definitely top five of Los Olivos tasting rooms, so I'd put them on your short list. I have the feeling like they're on the...
Read moreI’m overdue to jot a few notes on our visit to Dragonette back in May. I had been only once before and that was nearly 10 years ago but I remember liking it so we stopped in for a tasting.
As I had hoped, the wines at the tasting were all to our liking. Just as important was the leisurely pace of the time we enjoyed the wines. We sat on the porch and it was wonderful weather and a great way to pass the time.
Key to our tasting experience though was the service and excellent descriptions and insights shared by our server, David. He was great! He really knows his stuff. Not just the Dragonette wines but the...
Read moreBlake made our experience at Dragonette one of the highlights of our trip! We are sommeliers from Mexico City and came to this winery by recommendation from Elizabeth Schneider and it exceeded our expectations. All of the wines we got to taste were really good, with particular mentions to the Grimm’s Bluff Sauvignon Blanc and the black label ones. Blake was really informative about the making of the wines, very patient with our questions and even told us some history of the winery. He really made a difference in our visit. I couldn’t recommend...
