The cheapest & best swim lessons and strength training gym in So Cal! Very qualified trainers.
Very nice facility, feels more like an expensive club than a public pool. They even have a strength training gym, adequately equipped to build as much strength as you like and no waits. Just for the gym alone it's worth cancelling your expensive gym membership imo.
But the biggest selling point is it's very peaceful. I don't know why but sitting poolside with the breeze and the hills feels more serene than any beach. Instantly Zen the second you sit down. I'm hard-pressed to find a place that feels more instantaneously halcyon south of Glen Ivy. It feels like everything you hope to get from backpacking or camping or majestic views in nature.
The pools are heated which means any time is a great time for a swim. Various aquatic training tools are available such as floats to help people of all levels (athlete to rehab to beginner) train, exercise or swim leisurely without sinking or getting winded. There's not a lot of chlorine but goggles are recommended.
Everyone seems kind and leisurely, great place to network or make classy friends (or set up playdates). There is a huge jacuzzi that is almost always empty although everyone's so nice there you never mind if you have company. The jacuzzi is hot enough to be therapeutic but not so hot you get sweaty or dizzy. You can comfortably stay in until about the time you are satiated and leave rejuvenated. Very nice locker and shower facility with nice, hot showers with 2 in 1 shampoo body wash.
The only warning is it is always windy here, much more so than the beach or anywhere else in Carlsbad. And the wind is cold, even on 75 degree days in August in the middle of the day it can be downright unpleasant and I'm the guy who goes shorts and no jacket before 9pm all winter. As in everyone is saying it's cold but a mile away at Bressi no wind. So if you're sitting while your kid is swimming, cover your skin unless it's a heatwave because the wind is stingingly cold like make you so playing on your phone so you can put your hands on your pockets cold. But windbreaker not coat because the temperature is always the same as the rest of Carlsbad, it's just that darn...
Read moreReally nice facility. Free for kids under two so cheaper than Oceanside in that sense, but in my opinion not as nice. The Oceanside Wagner center has lounge chairs so you can lay out by the pool. Not just plastic Adirondack chairs and bleachers. There are also umbrellas for the lounge chairs. They also have a terraced, covered area with Adirondacks if you just want to sit. Carlsbad does have more greenspace if that’s what you come for. Pools are basically the same. Give or take a few diving boards. I prefer the Oceanside large newer bathrooms . My granddaughter is now crying because her eyes hurt so bad from the chlorine level of the pool. Which I could smell. That never happens at Wagner. Bottom line to me is that Oceanside has a smaller, classier resort feel. Carlsbad a more touristy town, busy community feel. Ironically, the woman at the front desk was kinda snooty. Dissing the Oceanside Wagner center because their center is in “wealthier, more beautiful Carlsbad.” 🙄 I could tell the younger girl with her was cringeing at...
