Returning to a schooling environment at 50 something was extremely intimidating. Not knowing if I would be able to keep up with working full time and attending classes. But all of the staff and instructors at Southwest Technical College were helpful beyond my wildest expectations. From the very beginning enrollment process thru to graduation, I felt like i was supported and had a purpose. If I ever needed help, had questions, or wanted to talk; someone was there for me. I felt like i could approach anyone and they would go out of their way to help. Every staff member had one objective, to help me succeed. And succeed I did. I graduated as the Southwest Technology College 2017 Student of the Year and Culinary Student of the Year. I left with pride in my heart that I was affiliated with a fantastic and affordable college. Since graduating I have started a bakery, ventured with my own baking business and work at our local hospital in Nutritional Services. I started taking classes at Southwest Tech while going to school for my Bachelors degree. I was looking for more exposure to the medical field that I was studying to go into. Being in the Phlebotomy program was absolutely perfect for me and helped me not only to see that I was going into the right field, but to gain a love for healthcare! I loved learning from inspiring instructors who are passionate about their field, gaining experience working with the top phlebotomists, and acquiring an understanding of best procedures and ethics. The idea of college always scared me and I was certain I'd never go. However, Southwest Tech has made a college education pretty much stress free. I started by taking programming classes at the college while I was in high-school and now I take IT classes at Stech daily. I'm always comfortable in lass and I never think of it as a drag to get up in the morning to go. A big reason for enjoying the college so much is that the instructors truly care about my education.
