The manager possessed a deep knowledge of his store’s inventory, which I found to be a valuable asset; however, I couldn't shake the feeling that he might hold racist views or be particularly inclined to dismissive behavior towards differing perspectives. Upon entering the store, I was hopeful for insightful recommendations in a niche genre I am passionate about: psychological horror.
Initially, the manager did provide some solid recommendations, which were appreciated. However, as I continued browsing the shelves and perusing a few novels that caught my eye, I noticed an unsettling shift in the atmosphere. It was disconcerting to see him contact security without any apparent reason. While I cannot definitively prove his intentions, I could not help but notice that the security officer seemed to head straight towards me the moment I entered the store, bypassing the two other customers present. When I observed the security guard, he deliberately positioned himself in my line of sight not once, but twice, without even making his way through the entirety of the store.
This made me question whether my taste in comics had somehow triggered a response in the manager, or if it was simply the fact that I am Black that caused him to react in such a manner. When I decided to purchase, I felt compelled to address the incident with the security officer. To my dismay, he immediately became defensive and revealed that he was indeed the person who had initiated the call for security.
Additionally, I noted a stark transformation in the manager’s demeanor. The once warm and informative THEARON, who had eagerly shared suggestions, became increasingly dismissive as the transaction progressed. When I inquired about the renowned author Junji Ito—whose celebrated works include "Uzumaki" and "Hellstar Remina"—his response was curt and unhelpful, merely suggesting that I check out Barnes & Noble for more information. As for knowledge about other comic book stores, he seemed uninterested in engaging further, leaving me frustrated and disappointed in an experience that had begun with...
Read moreThis is my go-to spot for my comic book needs! I consider this my Local Comic Book Shop (LCBS) and have several pulls here. They are very accommodating of my various request for adding variants to my pull list. Every staff member is super helpful and friendly. The manager, Theron is awesome and seems to genuinely care about the comic book industry and bringing in young readers. Their free comic book day even was awesome and my son had a great time picking up some free comics. They have a VIP membership which I highly recommend, as you will get discounts on all of your purchases. In addition to comics, they have a great selection of Funko pops, anime toys, manga, trade paperbacks, hardcovers...
Read moreThis little off the track shop has a great knowledgeable Staff and their Magic Cards are fair priced but most importantly- not weighed or repackaged reseals or counterfeit like you can get from big box stores. They also have treasure hunting from time to time with their delightful MTG offerings.. they consistently carry all the standard staples but occasionally you’ll find random throwback surprises such as a pack or two of Amokhet, Ixalan, Dark Ascension, and Hour of Devastation (to name the most recent ). Other than that the store is clean neat tidy But they’re extremely cool staff is really what sets this...
