Seeing the long lines of folks waiting to go in each day on the weekend makes you wonder about this place. It sure made me excited to plan to come early on a Saturday morning at opening time just to get a seat. Let’s just say that I regret getting up early for this place as I was extremely disappointed. The restaurant is super outdated, giving a frozen in time type of feel, but not in a good way. Long story short this restaurant runs off of pure loyalty. You can tell by its clientele. Not that that’s a bad thing. But for those looking to explore food places that have nothing but amazing reviews online and expect to be blown away by amazing food- this isn’t it. Maybe back in it’s day it may have been in its prime but that most certainly is not the case today. I’m not sure what was more underwhelming; the environment or the food. You’d think for the prices they charge the food would be somewhat satisfying. Absolutely not. Even then you don’t even know what the actual prices are as they are all X’ed out on the menu. My table ordered the Triple B pancakes (bacon, banana, and peanut butter) and the pecan pancakes with the “deluxe breakfast” add on which consists of eggs and your choice of sausage or bacon. While waiting for this “extraordinary” breakfast to be served we ordered coffee and water. The water is straight from the faucet. The coffee was so hot I just knew it was instant coffee. And that it was. It must’ve had a maximum of half a teaspoon of coffee. It was so bad. And to make it worse they had no flavored creamers, just ‘good ol cream n sugar’. The water itself was so atrocious. Iced faucet water that not even lemons could save. When the food arrived there was a hair in my eggs. And i know for a fact it was not mine as my hair was in a curled up do and the hair was straight, long and black… my hair is short and red. I sent it back. The pancakes were just awful. The Triple B were literally served like elementary school breakfast. I feel bad for comparing it to that as in this case Elementary school breakfast is better than this place. No effort whatsoever. A piece of bacon just thrown on top of a sad stack of pancakes with mushy banana. The peanut butter you ask? In a small plastic cup… basically for you to assemble yourself. The pecan pancakes were literally that. Not even sugared pecans… just roughly chopped pecans thrown on top of a stack of scattered pancakes. The syrup itself was so watery. The best part of the entire meal was the butter and I’m not even joking. In conclusion: overall the experience was poor. Staff were very nice and attentive. If I’d consider coming back, it would be only for them. This place is a low cost provider for sure. Low quality ingredients for over inflated prices. To complete the experience upon leaving, the front of restaurant had a smashed cockroach on the sidewalk and a pile of throw up a foot away… The location, food quality, and ambiance are poor. If you leave a restaurant feeling robbed, you know it was terrible. If I had to explain this restaurant in two words : Overpriced and...
Read moreBreakfast time! Get here early and wait patiently. Don't bring a bad vibe with you. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so you will be waiting outside, on the sidewalk, until called. There are no benches, be prepared to stand. This location is on the smaller side but the service is courteous and quick. They have been here since 1964 and it shows. From the decor to the bathrooms (Gender neutral) to the whole layout, but the food is delicious. My pancakes were fluffy and cooked to perfection. The butter and syrup, pure deliciousness to top them off. My homestyle potatoes crispy on the outside and cooked just right in the middle. I didn't care for the Garden scramble eggs with sausage, don't get me wrong, there was a lot of sausage mixed into the eggs however something about the texture didn't sit quite right with me. My friend Javier had his usual Shredded beef omelet with avocado. His was amazing as usual and he did comment that the pancakes were, "bomb". On a side note, next time we're going to try the Asada with chilaquiles plate, a gal at the table next to us ordered it and it looked amazing. Coffee was great, service was great, check this place out if you're in the area. Don't forget to tip your server, they are working really hard to make your visit a good one. This place is a small piece of history from a bygone era. Definitely dated but just like anyone else born in the 60's we take a licking and keep on ticking. Have a great one. Bon appetit! 11/26/23 Breakfast Corn Beef Hash omelette with potatoes and pancakes. Pancakes w/butter and syrup ALWAYS a great choice. The corn beef hash was different than what I'm used to. The flavor was good however the texture was not to my liking. It was more like sandwich meat, not unlike a Rueben, sliced or chopped up and put into an omelette. It was good nonetheless. Portions were big. I couldn't remember what I wanted to try until I reread this post. Next time I'm having the Asada w/chilaquiles plate. Javier had his usual Shredded Beef Omelette with 1/2 an avocado on top. Two breakfast with coffee $52.00 ($2.00 credit card surcharge) plus $20.00 tip. Thanks Javier. I got the next one. Great start to...
Read moreI have worked in restaurants for more than 15 years and never seen such terrible customer service and organization. The "philly" I ordered was actually a steak with a clump of grilled onions and swiss on one portion of the sandwich and barely one the steak. The steak was made to order and came out at correct temp but didn't land itself on the bread at all. My step dad ordered some crepe with a berry whip cream mixture that was not very tolerable, when he asked for something to make his food more tolerable he was told he would be charged 4 bucks for it. My drink sat empty for nearly 15 minutes, the place was terribly understaffed for the business they get. The location makes the place look like a hole in the wall diner with side street parking unless you feel the desire to park across the street and cross traffic assuming you can't get in the constantly full shared parking around the corner. Avoiding the physical appearance and the parking the food was not as expected, the customer service was terrible. Yeah large portions for "cheap" prices seems to be the main review. By the way i actually found this place more expensive than many other places i have been to. I have no idea why people rated this place so high.
Final note, got the bill and they had added a completely extra meal on the ticket nobody...
