★☆☆☆☆ Popularity ★☆☆☆☆ Size/Location ★★★★☆ Terrain ★★★☆☆ Scenery ★★☆☆☆ Accessibility ★★★☆☆ Amenities ★★★★★ Condition ★★★★★ Safety Date visited: 09/16/2023 On a scorching summer day, I visited Alms Park perched atop a hill, known for its picturesque views and serene surroundings. As I approached, there was no visible parking lot in sight, but I managed to secure a spot along the roadside. The road was lined with cars, and a service truck hinted at preparations for an event, likely a wedding set to take place in the pavilion. This pavilion, situated at the heart of the park, rested on top of a mound. However, it was bustling with activity, dominated by Latino workers and other guests. Their presence made it difficult for me to explore this particular area. Opposite the pavilion, a pergola provided a delightful alternative. It offered a serene overlook of the airport field below and distant mountains, creating a captivating view that contrasted the intense summer heat. Further southwest within the park, I discovered yet another overlook area. Here, a few older gentlemen sought refuge from the scorching September sun, sitting on the hot concrete and gazing at Luken Field and the horizon beyond. It was a moment that seemed to embody reflection on the past, appreciation of the present, and contemplation of the future. As I ventured deeper into the park, I noticed a nature trail that led into a wooded area below. The temptation to explore was strong, but I opted to save it for another day. The park boasted a variety of amenities, including a children's playground, picnic tables, and grills. Families were making the most of these features, creating a lively and inviting atmosphere that I didn't wish to disturb. Overall, this park atop the hill offered a pleasant escape from the summer heat. The road leading to and within the park was well-shaded, making it an ideal location for a leisurely walk or hike any day...
Read moreI grew up with this park as one of the many parks in my neighborhood and was able to frequent the park as a child and still do to this day! Up till the point of my father's passing when I was 15 years of age, my family used this location as the annual location for family reunions so that family outside of immediate family could see one another. This is a stunningly beautiful park with a rest/viewing bench dug out of the hill that people can sit at and see the amazing view of Lunkin Airport and watch as the aircraft's take-off and/or land. There is a concrete slide that has been there my entire life which appears to have been there for the parks existence that has always been one of the fastest slides I have ever rode down (which I do not recommend for children whom are not able to show themselves or easily injured, I assist my 3 years old myself as it can be quite dangerous). I hope to continue to keep this park in my life, heart, and memories while passing what could be considered a tradition of sorts, on to my children and grandchild (and any more future grandchildren) with the hopes they too will love this park as I do with the hopes they too get the chance to experience, have and hold deer in their hearts cherished memories for the rest of their lives to pass on for generations to come! I truly recommend that every Cincinnati resident give this park a visit and take in the view, you will not regret it and likely will make it a habit to go as often you can, try taking a lunch break there, take your lunch and either park next to the wide open view of Lunkin or sit on the concrete bench down in the viewing area and enjoy it all...
Read moreYou might not realize this park is even here - its entrance is hidden on a side street in a residential neighborhood, but it is well worth seeking out for some of the great views of the Ohio River, Cincinnati Municipal Airport, and the surrounding low lands in general. The 100 acres of the park itself are also very nice with a nice mix of manicured lawns on the hilltop and more rugged forest on the slopes falling away from it. There is a trail through the woods, but it's more of a grassy path which is pretty wet in the morning and muddy after a rain. In the more parklike area, there are picnic and playground areas with some well kept public restrooms and a very nice pavilion and pergola. The latter boasts a nice view of the Ohio River, while the overlook at the back of the park has a great view of the Municipal Airport below and a peek (probably better in the winter when the leaves are off) of the Little Miami River beyond (its confluence with the Ohio is nearby and may also be...
