So, I was not really sure how to rate my interactions with this company. I will say that my verbal communications with the company have been okay. I called for a quote for glass to cover an L shaped desktop. I spoke to a representative at the time (I think his name was Jacob), and he said that he would call me on Monday with a quote. 2 weeks went past, and there was no call. So I called again and spoke to someone named Sebastian (don't hold me to the name). I told him that originally, I called for a quote for 2 pieces of glass to cover an L-shaped Receptionist desk, but now I only want a quote for 1 piece of glass. I called on the weekend, so he said that someone would call on Monday to give a quote because their quoting department was closed over the weekend. Anyhow, I asked him approximately how much would he say the piece of glass would cost for the size I needed (approximately 120x22) he said from what he's seen in the past it would be about $350-$400 (including delivery). This price was comparable to other quotes I've received from other glass companies (with the lowest being $300-and that includes measuring, 6 installation). So the price I was expecting to receive was between the price Sebastian roughly quoted me for.
I received a call on Monday from Jacob with the official quote, and he said the quote for 1 piece of glass was over $1k (including measuring and delivery. I don't know if installation was included).
That's not only almost triple the amount I was quoted by Sebastian (who works for the same company) but also triple the amount I was quoted by 3 other glass companies. I'm not sure what type of glass they quoted me for. If it was bulletproof, indestructible glass, or regular commercial glass. I just don't know. But for all of the reviewers who stated that this company was reasonable in price, that was not my experience. So I want to venture to say that there may have been many cases where clients have been overquoted for services with this company, and the clients had no idea.
Before you book this company in the future, please do your research. There are many other companies that offer better customer service and better pricing. Do your research. It's worth it.
So I cannot rate on performance. I'm sure this company does exceptional work. But I can rate on price, and from my experience they are wayyyy over priced for quality service offered at a third of the price. It doesn't make sense to be to pay more for the same quality of service if I don't have to. Hopefully this information helps others.
Response to Glass Doctor:
I had to edit this message just to provide a response to Glass Doctor because I truly appreciated the well drafted reply to my original review. The company that I ended up going with provided the exact same services you described. The glass was exactly as you described and what I was quoted for by your company. They also came in a branded van and uniform. 2 people delivered and installed the glass as well. The only difference I would say is that the company came and measured the area where the glass would go themselves (same day actually) instead of taking approximate measurement over the phone as your company did. Also, they made adjustments to the glass on site as needed when they delivered and installed the glass top which included cutting the glass and sanding it to ensure the most perfect fit. Glass was also insured.
I'm not sure why they provided the same services (and actually more than what you described) for a fraction of the price. I guess I just lucked up on a really good company. Anyhow, I just wanted to share for information purposes. Nothing against Glass Doctor because obviously their business model is working if they are getting customers to pay these prices (or maybe I was just one of the few unlucky customers who got an inflated price). Either way it goes, no harm, no foul. I got the glass that I needed within 2 days and I am happy. If anyone is interested in knowing the name of the company I used (based out of Tampa) please feel free to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI had a small pebble hit my windshield and left a small mark. I called to have it repaired. Scheduling was the first problem, and I should have cancelled when I could not get an answer from them on WHEN they would arrive. I did not however, and when he arrived, he mentioned that he would fix it (it would only be a few minutes) but some people can still see a blemish on the windshield, but it would be safe and secure and stop it from spreading. A few minutes later he came back into my office and told me that he had "run" the glass, which I did not understand. He explained that the crack was now covering the entire windshield and I walked outside to see that my windshield was now destroyed and I was so upset! No apology, no remorse and I had them speak to my husband. THEY HUNG UP ON HIM! Then I thought about the cameras on my car (Tesla) and pulled the video and could actually SEE the technician push his finger along the glass which caused the glass to completely crack and make it necessary to now replace my windshield. THIS IS A $2000 MISTAKE. They were still no apologies, and no remorse and no help offered. I asked the following day for them to cover the cost of repair. Now they are telling me that they would like to replace the windshield (this is how they think they can make it right- AT MY EXPENSE!) I am livid, this is the oldest scam around, try to fix it and cause more damage that cannot be undone so that they can offer me "a great deal on a new windshield" UNBELIEVABLE. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE. They are scam artist and just looking to take you to a full windshield replacement, not to fix a blemish on the windshield. Did I mention that the car was brand new? I am so upset and will tell everyone that I know NOT to do business with The Glass Doctor of Tampa Bay.
UPDATE After your response- I have the text message from my husband where there is no profanity- but blanked words with symbols and no profanity. So again, a lie to further aggravate me. I am exhausted from dealing with this, and still noone from your company is apologetic. Your idea to remedy the situation is to refund the initial payment OR line your pockets further! To add further insult, getting the work completed to fix YOUR mistake to my brand new car is going to be a couple of weeks as Tesla appointments are difficult to arrange (and who would ever imagine after 2 months needing something like this...) Tesla has recommended that we not use your company, and I am suer that they will tell other customers the same. I didn't ask for this aggravation, I am beyond upset and frustrated. In what other industry can someone do this kind of damage to someone's property and think that it is acceptable? As I mentioned to Jeff in a message, would you allow your wife or daughter to drive an unsafe vehicle? Would you allow her to risk getting pulled over every time she pulls out of the driveway? This is the situation you have placed me in. The biggest frustration is that you claim that he is one your best, and maybe he is, but why did he only warn me of a possible blemish and no warning of a "run" or total windshield replacement needed? In fact sending me the information by email TODAY (Two days after the incident) which does me absolutely no good. I am at a loss, truly disappointed and angry. Stuck with a brand new car in need of a very expensive repair due to someone else's actions. That is ultimately the full story. A brand new car, a huge expense due to your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI called the Glass Doctor on March 1st to replace a window pane that is cracked from the hurricane in September. He gave me a good price and advised that since it is a custom window it would take 3 to 4 weeks to get it and install it. I gave $500.00 deposit and have been waiting for 4 weeks. I called today to get a status update and was told that the window arrived, but it is scratched. I was given a choice to have the scratched window installed or wait for another one to be ordered. I asked forv some type of compensation for taking a scratched window and was give an offer of $50 off. Not very much for a defective window that costs over a grand. After a few conversations and negatiation, we were offered $125.00 off. We asked if we could come and see the scratched window before deciding to accept it. The manager agreed to let us do that. He texted the location and were preparing to leave. It was late in the day and a bit of a drive from St. Pete to Tampa. So, I called to find out what time they would be closing. The representative provided the store hours and then asked to put me on hold. When he returned to the phone he advised that the window was thrown away and no longer available for us to inspect. I would be happy to just walk away with my deposit returned to me, but I was informed that the deposit is nonrefundable. Now we have to wait for another window. Apparently the manufacturer will not accept a return of their scratched window. So Glass Doctor just throws them away if they do not meet inspection quality. Does any of this sound suspicious so far? The manager is supposed to call tomorrow to see if he can work something out for us. We will see. Stand by for the results and buyer beware, once you pay the deposit you are at their mercy. If the next one comes back scratched, I guess we will just keep waiting. In the meantime we have a mess to deal with and a broken window that isn't going...
