I decided to write a review because I feel it's a tragedy to allow this business to continue with a single review, and a bad one at that.
I honestly don't know what store the former reviewer went to, because my experience could not have been any more different.
I mean, they are human beings, so you do have to take some kind of initiative to engage them and let them know if you need help. It's a small store, not a huge chain like Lowe's, so the employees are there for more than following you around.
That said, I'm a mid-twenties chick who dresses cleanly, but blatantly "casual". You would never look at me and expect me to pay thousands for something. I went into Belknap Lumber after being treated poorly at Lowe's. They were not at all rude. I walked up to the counter and told the gentleman that I was going to be building a bed frame for a water bed, and I would need specific sized wood (2x10), as well as some guidance. I had plans ready to show the wood shop manager, to whom I was directed.
Allan was AMAZING! He was a busy guy, so you have to extend some minor patience as he deals with all the work he has to do and tends with contractors coming in and out of the shop. But he will give you his undivided attention, help you figure out exactly what you need and make sure he knows exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish so that he can cut it properly.
Back to the shop to pay for the wood, Joe was also absolutely awesome! He helped me find all the accessories I needed to put the frame together - screws, sand paper, stain, brackets, etc. He also made sure that if there was any scrap wood that fit my needs, to use that instead to save me some money. He went through my check list with me and even mentioned some things that I would need but hadn't thought of.
And after all that amazing service, I only paid $150 or so, after shop time for cutting the wood, the materials, and delivery.
So, they knew I was not a "big ticket" customer. They still went...
Read moreMy contractor wanted to go to Lowes or Home Depot - I went along with him , but after walking around a giant warehouse store I asked him why we didn't go to a real lumber yard and told him let's leave and go to Belknap Lumber. We walked in talked to a counter clerk who answered all of my questions and provided all the products (a storm door, ceiling tiles, wood trim and exterior siding products) I needed for my renovation and we walked out the door 15 minutes later.
It's a great feeling to know you are supporting a local business invested in our community with knowledgeable staff who can answer all your questions.

Read moreVery disappointed in the service here. I went with my husband to look at some paneling. Neither of the 2 men at the counter looked up for over a minute. One of them showed us where to look and when we went back to the desk, neither looked up at us to ask if they could help us. We walked out without either of them saying a word to us. We are well dressed, normal looking people.I guess bc we weren't buying a big ticket item this time around, it wasn't worth their time. They've lost our business forever- decking, kitchen, railings. We'll give someone...
