Backyard of Cornell University🥹🎓🍁 Cascadilla Gorge is a picturesque natural area located on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, offering such beautiful scenery and a series of cascading waterfalls. 2 years ago, I visited during summer but Fall has its own MAGIC✨ I love my alma mater at University of Illinois as studying at Cornell would have made me sooo distracted all the time🥲🍁 Where have you seen a stunning University campus? I’m eagerly waiting to visit a few in UK!! 😍 𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐕𝐄𝐋 𝐓𝐈𝐏𝐒 📍𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The Cascadilla gorge is situated on the Cornell University campus, easily accessible from downtown Ithaca. 🥾𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥: An easy 0.5-mile loop trail that starts at the Cornell campus near College Avenue and winds its way through the ravine. It’s a little steep, scenic trail with various bridges and steps, offering stunning views of waterfalls and lush greenery. ⚠️𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲: Be cautious, especially if you’re visiting during or after rainfall, as the trail might be slippery. Respect the signs and barriers, and wear appropriate footwear for hiking. 📷 𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐲: Bring a camera or your smartphone to capture the beautiful waterfalls, bridges, and the natural beauty of the gorge. 🍁 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧: Open year-round, it is particularly stunning during the fall with foliage. Winter brings a unique icy beauty, though the trail might be closed for safety reasons during harsh weather. 👥 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐝: This trail is a hidden gem & used by the University folks only! So you can visit anytime to enjoy the beautiful hike! ⏳𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞: The entire trail takes less than 15 mins but you can easily spend 30-40mins depending on how much time you spend exploring and taking in the scenery. 💦 𝐍𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐲 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: While in the area, you might also want to explore other natural attractions like Buttermilk Falls State Park or Taughannock Falls State Park for more outdoor adventures. NY State Park with 10 Waterfalls💦⤵️ The best time to visit Buttermilk Falls State Park is during Spring when all the 10 amazing waterfalls are full cascading through the steep valley toward Cayuga Lake. Be prepared to climb many many steps but it’s really worth as the views of the waterfalls and serene forest around feels so therapeutic! We hiked in the evening and met only around 10 people on the entire trail. 📍Buttermilk Falls State Park 🚗 ~4h from NYC ⏰ Visit early morning or late in the evening 🥾Gorge Trail (0.65 miles, 1-1.5h) 🅿️ $9 per car, valid all day at all state parks 🏊🏻♀️ Lifeguarded swimming is available seasonally 🐕🦺 Dogs are allowed on a leash Make it a great weekend trip by adding these nearby attractions: ✦ Ithaca Falls ✦ Robert H. Experience the allure of the Cascadilla Gorge Trail—a stunning pathway that spans three-quarters of a mile, winding through a gorge carved by nature. This trail acts as a picturesque link between downtown Ithaca and Cornell University. Along your journey, you'll be captivated by a succession of waterfalls while ascending 400 feet through well-crafted stone pathways and staircases. Nestled discreetly within the heart of the city, this trail offers unparalleled scenic beauty. A word of caution to parents: the trail isn't suitable for strollers, so if you're bringing a toddler along, make sure to be well-prepared. Remember that the trail remains open from sunrise until sunset, despite what Google's closing time might suggest—especially during the summer months when it extends beyond 6 pm. While finding roadside parking might pose a slight challenge, rest assured that the trail's entrance comes with no admission fee. For those exploring Ithaca, a visit to this trail is an absolute must. Its hidden charms and natural splendor are ready to be discovered.

So many waterfalls!!! It is an easy hard surface trail but there are also a lot of staircases along the way to the top. Wife and I are both 60 now and a few of the climbs winded us enough that we needed to take a quick break but was not an overly strenuous trail (especially for those who are in better physical shape than us) so it should not be too difficult for most anyone who is physically fit. But no matter what, it is all so worth it because-- if you love waterfalls & the peaceful natural music that comes from the sounds of cascading waters --then you will truly enjoy the sights & sounds when you commune with nature at this place. Wife & I loved our time here and recommend it highly with 2 thumbs up!!!
