Band was excellent and concessions were reasonably priced. However- HUGE fire and safety hazard. Tickets were sold as GA with seats being first come first served, advertised as no standing room. The band we were there for is normally standing room only but whatever; we were fine with having seats. Small orchestra area they allowed people to stand in, also whatever, we grabbed seats a few rows back. People filled in the aisle once the small standing area was full, effectively blocking any exit from the seats, and this was allowed and got worse for the entirety of the show. Thermostat showed 82% humidity and the theatre was unbearably hot for the majority of the show (probably partly due to people packing into the aisle). At least if a venue is all standing, you can move back if it gets too crowded. With the seat situation and them allowing the aisles to be full, there was No Option of moving...
Read moreThe state theater has an old soul. It's been there for many, many years. It's been reconstructed and brought back to life as seen by the many artists shows that are offered here. Both local and big public personas.
There is air conditioning, however, in the thestre of a live show on a hot day...the body heat and lights are no match and you will he warm. Dress accordingly. There is a bar and concession on site with wonderful local offerings and name brands you know. There is not a bad seat in the house...it feels rather intimate and beautiful.
Sold out shows still feel intimate, and the doors open with a stream-lined entrance that moves quickly. Bathroom is upstairs and taken care of throughout the show.
I would recommend any show at the...
Read moreNicely rehabbed old Theater, always has good shows - BUT WITH NOWHERE NEAR ENOUGH BATHROOM CAPACITY. The only men’s room is a 2-3 holer and it’s on the upper level. During intermission there will be a line from the lobby all the way up the stairs waiting to pee. Honestly it makes me think twice about attending shows here because it’s such a hassle. Last time I was there (last winter) neighboring businesses were displaying hand-made cardboard signs “no public restrooms” to let State Theater attendees know their bathrooms would not be an option. We stayed at one of the name brand hotels a block or two away - it was literally quicker to walk back to my room than to wait in “the line”. Not sure how the State Theater could fix this - but they...
