My partner and I chose this Hotel because of its great location, affordability and fun Collegetown vibes. Including kegs of alcohol in the lobby and dormroom themed everything. But, then, once we checked in many of the kegs were dry our entire stay. The location and atmosphere is good if you have some desire to relive your college days. The rooms, bathrooms and beds were tiny and very raised off the ground. I thought my dormroom at UMass in college was nicer than this. Then about a year later on Christmas I ordered gifts online through fast checkout, and they auto addressed my package to The Dorm Hotel. When the USPS delivered my package to The Dorm Hotel, the hotel claimed they never got it. So I never received my Christmas gifts. It was a bad experience staying there, but when my information got compromised on an online order because of it, I figured they would follow policy and reject a package that wasn't theirs. I even filed a missing package claim with the USPS. But it was denied based on their proof of delivery. But my Christmas package somehow vanished, and the hotel had no security footage or anything to back their negligence. The Ithaca police even took a Police Report. I also have to add that before any of this Christmas package debacle ever happened, I had heard rumors about the employees watching cameras here, violating people's privacy. And just being creepy all together. I am disgusted with the way The Dorm Hotel conducts it's business. I definitely don't recommend...
Read moreWhat a great find! This is the Cornell I want to return to without any of the Ithaca I left behind. Spotless, newly renovated, fun in a great location right in lower Collegetown. I usually feel duty-bound to stay at the Statler but this has a better vibe. ||When I come back to Cornell, I prefer to be in the action where the students are, not stranded in an academic building or banished to the Commons. The Dorm is mid-hill - a comfortable (Ithaca) walk to campus or Commons. I didn’t use my car during my stay. ||The entire place is double-dipped in Cornell lore so, really fun. The common area has free coffee, snacks for sale, a common fridge, a microwave, and lots of thoughtful touches. Everything I needed. ||The best thing was the staff. Wow. A simple telephone or text message away, Joanne, Abhi (sp) and David were welcoming ambassadors and fascinating people. David even baked a pineapple upside down cake for fun and brought it to share with the guests! When is the last time a hotel (or anyone) baked you a cake? ||This is not luxury, nor is it soul-less point-junkie midscale or in-your-hair B and B. This is where to come when you want to remember what hospitality is all about. No surprise that the owner is a Cornell “Hotelie.”...
Read moreGiving 5 stars, not because it is a 5 star hotel, but because it is very good at being what it is: an unique boutique budget hotel. The furnishings are sparse but adequate: bed, desk, chair, stepstool, clothes hanging rack, sink, bathroom with toilet and shower. The shower is very good. The bed and pillows are comfortable, there is plenty of hot water, the room was quiet and the staff were very nice. Maid service happens at the end of your stay but you are welcome to ask for maid service during your stay if you wish. It was easy for us to ask for and get extra towels.|The Copper Horse Coffee in the morning urn was very, very good (and I am a coffee snob). I will be trying it at home.|The location could not be better. You are on the lower (albeit downhill) border of the Cornell campus, if that is your destination. There is a short downhill walk to the good Cent Dix french restaurant and a score of other dining places.|We stayed there because the Statler hotel on campus seems to be filled up months ahead of time, but we are very glad we got to stay here. We were concerned about being close to the frat houses and student rowdiness, both within and without the hotel - but we needn't have worried. ...
