So I was very excited about the new shop and new owners. I have been to the shop a total of 4 times. And 3 of 4 times were good. The last time was not horrible by any means, so my rating of 2 is of my full experience.
So my rating rating of 2 boils down to these 5 things (2 positive and 3 growth areas - hence my rating of 2 out of 5 stars):
1)They advertise they do pink and white. If you want pink and white she does only okay. BUT TO GIVE HER CREDIT, she was up front about only being okay at pink and white and even tried to see if I would prefer something else. I TOOK the chance anyway and said that I am willing for her to practice on my nails. So if you want traditional pink and white know that they will be subpar.
I do like that every time you go they ask if you want something to drink. That is a very nice touch and creates an inviting atmosphere. I suggest they keep doing this.
It is very nice and clean inside, so you feel relaxed which is a great vibe when you want your nails done.
When they are NOT busy they take time to do your nails. When they are packed they rush and sacrifice the attention to detail, which could be a bit annoying when you are paying for a service. My recommendation is that you book on slow days, or ask for an allotted time up front so they do not feel rushed to get to the next person. When they do not feel pressure from other customers they take their time.
As someone who spoils myself and is willing to pay whatever it is to get my nails done with high quality, I am offended to be labeled as "haggling", especially when I tip (even when the last time the job was rushed, and I got nicked with the drilled). If the owner of the salon can not deal with giving context behind prices and explaining the difference between what is on the board and what customer is being charged I recommend a customer service class. She also said she does not want to do my nails because I "haggled" her. Olean is a very small community and I already started referring people her way. If one minor conflict (conflict resolution is key as an owner and also someone who interacts with customers), then this will affect business. More context below
The last time the I went to the shop I got my nails soaked off and a new pink and white. When It was time to check out I was charged $90. The $90 caught me off guard, when the pricing board said "$65", so I asked "It is $25 to soak off nails?". She replied "no only $10 but it is $90 because you got your nails long". I was surprised because when I got my nails done, I asked for them to be not to be long, so to hear, I was charged for long nails surprised me. "I replied, I need to understand the pricing because I feel like I was charged something different when I initially came and got my full set the first time". She replied, "No it is the same, the first time I did charge you ($80) for your nails.. " , which would support the $90. I said okay paid AND TIPPED!. I messaged the owner to ask to set an appointment and she said that I should try other shops if I want to "haggle" about the prices.
Now, I was clearly taken a back by this. Why? Because the board said $65 and I was charged $90, so I was seeking clarity on the difference. Furthermore, For the other 3 times I went to this nail shop I spent Over $140+ (2 of 3 times) AND tipped ($10-15+) ON TOP of that. I add the pricing details because I want to convey that I do not have concerns about a $90 dollar amount in isolation. My issue was the price difference in the pricing board. The reason why I did not realize the isolated cost of a new pink and white set is because the first time I went I got a full set PLUS the most expensive pedicure AND of course tipped.
If number 5 above did not happen, I would have rated a 3 for average (not overly amazing but not horrible by any means).

Read morePlease take the time to read this as it is a safety and sanitary issue that could potentially save another person from the traumatic and quite frankly disgusting service I received there yesterday. I called in advance to inquire as to whether they perform Brazilian waxes. They assured me they did and that an appointment was not required and to come right in. I did this. When I entered the room, I was not given a gown or cover up sheet and the chair/table was bare with no kind of sheet, paper, or cover whatsoever. Instead I was given one of those fuzzy throw blankets to cover either that I declined as it had been used by others. I was already disgusted at this point but decided to just get on with it. It wasn’t too far in that I realized this woman had no prior experience with Brazilian and that I was likely her first attempt and that she just thought she would “wing it”. Not only did she use incorrect wax and burn me, she placed the wax so thick and incorrectly that it stuck to me. It took over an hour of vigorous scrubbing pulling and tearing to fix the mess she had made. In the end she finished up by shaving me with a disposable men’s razor. Who’d know what other people it had been used on. When I tell you the sheer pain that was experienced, I was covered in sweat upon leaving. I had actual arm pit stains. I felt violated. She kept leaving the room with the door wide open while I was still bare on the table, never even addressed it, like that was just totally normal. Instead of asking for help she just kept making it worse and worse. One day later and I am covered in burns and bruises. I have had this service from other businesses several times in the past and have never experienced any kind of substantial pain. I want to make sure that this doesn’t ever happen again to anyone else. Please protect yourself and do NOT get waxed by this business. They are shameful and entirely devious and dishonest. Mind after the entire service being totally botched, left bleeding and burned, and not even obtaining full hair removal whatsoever she then proceeded to charge me $100 which is outrageously overpriced!!! I wanted to demand that they fix it after I heal free of charge but I would never trust them to lay another finger on me. To be out that much money for being harmed and maimed is disgusting, disgraceful, and poor poor business. Protect yourself and your loved ones and never frequented this...
Read moreI went there for a pedicure with a friend. The new owner was the one who "took care" of me. She was completely rude to me. My friend's pedicure was much better than mine was. She had her feet scrubbed as is expected. She had her cuticles trimmed. And her polish turned out great. The owner acted like it was a bother for her to take care of me. She didn't trim my cuticles or scrub my feet. When I asked her if she could do so, she got very snotty with me. She said I had paid for the basic pedicure and I shouldn't expect much, all the while waving her price/services sheet in my face. I took her sheet and showed her where I was to expect basic things for my $25. She just walked away. A few minutes later she returned to polish my toes. She did a horrible, sloppy job. So, when she walked away, I asked the other worker if she could hand me the bottle of polish so I could fix it. Of course the worker spoke in Vietnamese and told the owner I was unhappy. She stomped over and asked me "what now?" I showed her where she had missed 1/2 a nail. She proceeded to polish again, making such a mess she had to remove it all and start again. I had originally asked for a manicure and a pedicure. After she was done with my pedicure, she asked if I was ready for my manicure. I told her that I didn't want one now. I told her she had done such an awful job with my pedicure that I refuse to waste any more money for subpar work. I did not leave her a tip. I will not return. It's too bad since I've been going to this salon since it opened twice a month for manicures, pedicures, and eyebrow waxing. But the new owner is just awful. I sure do miss Andy, the...
