I had surgery on my foot at the hospital (on Portland Ave) on 1/16 on an outpatient basis. I found the staff to be wonderful, caring, thorough, communicative, and friendly. Someone had entered my name backwards in the system and the nurses quickly had it fixed and new labels made up. I felt very well taken care of and comfortable - which is so important because surgery can be quite anxiety provoking. My surgeon spent time with me before and after the operation, and the anesthesiologist went over everything with me before the procedure. The work to be done was clearly marked on my leg. Several nurses were involved in care and all were friendly, calming, efficient, and thorough. Afterwards, I was in the recovery ward. They brought all my belongings and had them right next to me, brought my choice of something to drink (water), and went over the discharge instructions. They waited to release me until all the discharge procedures were completed, and they were comfortable with my full recovery from anesthesia. Access to and from the hospital was easy. I am very satisfied and recommend the hospital to anyone.

This is long. You only need to read the first sentence; the rest is personal testimony.

Their lawyers' insistence upon inflexible implementation and adherence to then NYS Gov. Cuomo's 2020-2021 CoViD rules caused unnecessary suffering and death.

My loving and beloved father was fully recovered from CoViD. We even contacted New York State Department of Health and the Federal CDC to verify this fact, with CDC- provided research papers coveringomy father's exact condition and blood measurements, but, because of the first sentence above, ourlloved one was kept in total isolation: for weeks the only humans he had contact with were staff, in what could be called hazmat suits, and only for brief periods to check vitals. When his cancer reared up, he was not given the IV treatments they normally get at RGH because they were being kept in CoViD isolation. No matter how I fought for release from isolation to move to other treatment, they would not budge.* Yet right downstairs was the Lipson Cancer Center that saved my father's life many times.** Without the support of family and friends that he always said was the thing that had gotten him through so many prior near death episodes, he finally lost hope, and with it the will to live that it takes to fight, especially without the IV's. I know this because he had a lucid moment the day before he died, when we managed a seemingly miraculous 3 minute phone call. I am now told these moments of pre-death lucidity are common to the nearing death experience. If I had known that at the time, I think I would have stolen mylfather in a wheelchair, being gone before the police got there. He always said that he never wanted to die in a hospital, but, again because of the first sentence above, he was not allowed to even go to a hospice immediately across the street. The process to placetmy father on inpatient hospice, when they would finally be allowed visits by immediate family members, took so long, again due to the first sentence above, that they were unconscious when we got there (20 minutes after they notified us of the start of hospice) and passed away three hours. When we paid like $50-100 to get the three inch stack of papers representing all the hospital records from that stay (his full medical records require a file cabinet) we found that there were many bed sores and severe rashes as a result of being left for weeks immobile in bed. Such things had never happened even during more prolonged ICU cancer treatments in another wing of this same hospital. The physicians at The Lipson Center are literal Life Savers hundreds of times a day and at six distinct times for our dear father. It is the legislators and lawyers who caused the premature end of a fine life, with unnecessary physical and emotional discomfort for the patient and family. I'm getting emotional as I write this because I can't believe it's been almost three years when it seems like yesterday. At this point I'm just more angry than sad. Footnotes: ** It's as if RGH Administration wanted him to die. I have no basis for the veracity of a comment I heard that RGH got $35,000 of government money for every CoViD death. But it explains the otherwise completely unreasonable, even egregious, rules we suffered. I can't say enough good about the RGH doctors, nurses, and aides from my family member's multiple extended stays. Until RGH's CoViD rules roadblocked our path to life, and even to a decent death, I had practically no problems with staff, not even in the occasionally over-busy ER, which we visited about every 4 months. Maybe our ER visits were different because we were usualy dropped off by ambulance at 2:00-3:00 AM and usually got triaged to near the front of the line because my family member was always near death. I apologize to other reviewers here who had to suffer pains and very long waits as a result of such triage. Our experiences do include waits of 8, 12, 24 and 36 hours in the ER before being admitted, so I have some understanding of their perspective, just maybe some slightly...

At least they did more than Strong when I was literally dying from an autonomic crisis that Strong misdiagnosed as anxiety 2xs & discharged me, got to RGH with a HR of 16 & BP 70/40 they put me on the cardiac unit for 5 days & then did absolutely nothing but screw up my meds & treat me like I did something wrong. They stopped my critical meds that help control the condition because they don't have the knowledge they need & don't listen. I kept telling them what was causing the wild swings of BP & HR, but they'd never heard of it & kept insisting it was my fault somehow. I was forced to take my own meds after asking for 2 days about them & then they said I was taking street drugs! One night my IV came out & I called for help @3 am & it took 2 hours for them to come & the floor was empty. I couldn't even leave when I was screamed at by a male nurse whom I kept telling that I needed the ultrasound to guide the IV & instead he blew 7 veins, tried to go in my wrist which bled like a faucet. I cried & begged him to wait a while before trying again, he said I'd be discharged then because "you can't be in the hospital without an IV" which is ridiculous. A man next to me wretched & cried as they stopped his heart pill -he was withdrawing & perilously close to a stroke too! It was unlike any other hospital stay, I was in fear of my health and them the whole time! Left with nothing resolved, just misdiagnosed as brady & hypotension only, even though my HR was 198 & bp was 180/145 at discharge (you can't make this up) my meds stopped & I was forced to take my own when my HR hit 191 & BP was 180/140. They gave me discharge paperwork proving they were not giving me all my meds & when I showed the nurse she was wrong they tried giving me a new falsified set & asked for the original back, I just wanted to get out of there before I died in their care and left with both sets. I lost 8lbs in 5 days there & they falsified it too! This is what we've been left with since NYS forced COVID vaxx on the healthcare system employees thereby running out the experienced staff with common sense! Then their shortage forced NYS to let anyone work in the ED/hospital & most of them shouldn't even be able to work with animals! These Drs are inexperienced, inept, cruel, unethical & misconduct is rampant. Like Thomas Gately PA, whom others have labeled rude & abusive & imo is a prime example of the way they all act. My friend is a PA that said she can't get them to listen to her & she is a DOCTOR too! It's terrifying to have to seek help from a medical provider just to be humiliated & dismissed, I don't know if they are looking for us to beg for our life or what.. They discharge you so the problem gets worse & you come back for them to say "this has been going on for a while now" like yes because you're failing to do your job & it's not like anyone can do it! They literally laugh at, yell at & mock patients these days - it's disgusting & causes trauma. I'm not sure what others do but I'm not in the habit of showing up at the ED unless I feel it's absolutely critical, in fact I probably wait too long. They've been trained to not admit people since COVID even when you clearly need it, they're overlooking ominous test results, signs and symptoms & pushing people out the door with meds to control the symptoms instead of attempting to treat the underlying causes. It's gotten to the point where you need to be on death's door for them to take action & even then.. they often don't. They treat people inhumanely, like they're a nuisance. They don't have the experienced older Drs there to teach them how to handle emergency situations & that things are different than their textbook so there's no safe option in Rochester. It seems like RGH is the better large hospital currently & that's not saying much. NYS has the most worst rated hospitals in the US! They're all receiving 1ks of complaints & the medical board is aware of their mess but no one is doing anything - go to Stonybrook or Cornell or Ohio because these upstate NY hospitals shouldn't be...

Within the past 2 years I have been at my mother's bedside in every hospital stay and there have been times where You can hear nurse's technicians and aides talking loud laughing and And being very disregarding Even ignoring a patient if yelling or calling out for help for them because they may be incompetent mentally due to The patient being overdosed with medication just to keep them sleeping All day. Leaving them to their own Device and out of their mental state. The care and compassion has left the building and we are on a time clock by the minute with casualties by the second 2nd for simple human era and neglect . If you are not watching over your loved ones, it is more than likely that they will not come home The same or not at all? Beware! My mother has been overdosed. She's been given the wrong medication. She continues to get the same exams over and over again even though she comes in for minor or unfounded medical issues. I found her hanging off the bed literally almost on the floor to being in a chair and left there all day without any care or eyes to watch over her. I have written several complaints going through their system even when almost losing my mother to again human era. Not because she was sick. Not because she was diagnosed with anything that caused her element but because someone by hand or by not giving the proper care or attention not following up or following through. With the simple matter and each time each complain, it was unfounded by the medical association at RGH. So even though you may have no choice because you live in a community where this hospital or others like it is in your within your vicinity and you have no others other facility to compare to to take your loved one. The only thing I can do is tell you do not leave their bedside speak up for them. Know their history, know the background, Know their doctors, gain an understand about what the insurance offers, make sure they have all coverage necessary to meet their needs, have an awareness of their baseline and know your loved ones behaviors. Keep an eye on all of their changes, write and document everything take photos when necessary. You don't have to scream or yell or be out of control, but let them know that you are present and that you have family, friends, or loved ones that are willing to speak up on their behalf. And that you will go to the rooftop to let people know what is really going on inside of this broken medical system that we live in in the good ole USA. It's very sad and disappointing because individuals do not realize that one day it could be them or their loved ones. People have shared that the medical staff are short well their character and care doesn't have to be. And most importantly, Let it be known to the doctors, the nurses, the techs charge nurses, nurse managers, the social workers, the caseworkers etc... That a patient is worth more than their paycheck. That Your family friend or loved one is a human being who needs care, compassion and understanding and most of all safety from competent, trained, professional, compassionate service workers to someone who is human and lastly an attentive ear to family and friends who are their to advocate and support them. And although all of the doctors and nurses we're not horrible within the numerous hospital stays we encountered a few very kind and caring medical professionals overall it amazed us how a stranger can walk into a room because of a title they can look at a chart and your loved onefor 10 seconds and tell you everything without first asking questions and staying long enough to get clear consice answers. At the end of the day...

Please keep an eye on your loved one because if you...
