I work in food service as does my girlfriend. I've worked franchises, chains, sports bars, seafood, and fine dining. I also cook for hobby. Food was excellent. Service was terrible.
I rooted and raved about Pasta Villa to my gf for months before we actually went in to eat. I'd tried their Caccuic once & fell in love. When we entered ttoday we were not greeted, we walked in a couple ft, looked around quizzically waiting for a table, until I had to ask the bartender where we should sit. She instructed us to continue walking around back where we were greeted by a busy server. The entire restaurant is smaller than my entire one bedroom apartment in Greece. We were greeted cheerfully by our server. She read off the list of specials she had written in her checkbook as she admitted that she didn't know them by heart yet. Another server (clearly more familiar with the new items than she) interrupted her mid sentence to tell us about an appetizer that our server hadn't gotten to yet. She looked very clearly bothered by the interruption. We ordered The Parmesan Gnocchi Chips and received them within good time. Business began to pick up, our server began taking longer and longer to come back to our table. She had at least one table of regulars who didn't need much tending to, and a family of 4 behind us. We had been sitting and nibbling bread and chips for nearly a half hour before we got a hold of her to place our orders. I ordered a medium Hanger steak scampi served with 3 jumbo shrimp, mashed potatoes, and broccoli (offered no other vege options), told the waitress it was my favorite cut and we discussed its rarity. My girlfriend ordered the Caccuico by my recommendation. We decided not to fill up on the fried dough that was our Gnocchi chips and wait for the food, she asked us to wrap up our appetizer to which we obliged and returned with our salads about 10 minutes later. They were decent house salads. Mix of Iceburg and Romaine lettuce with a few spinach leaves and purple cabbage, chickpeas olives and croutons. We finished our salads and waited another 30-35 minutes for the food that she kept saying was on the way. By then it seemed as if the dinner shift had arrived, and our table was approached for the same requests by 3 different servers than our own. I've worked fine dining before, as already stated. I'm aware that FOH should work as a team but this was OVERKILL, annoying, and awkward! They kept asking us the same qs that the last server asked us one after another - because we had been waiting so long for our food! There was only one table seated in the restaurant when we sat, and 3 in total when we placed our food orders. I imagined that the kitchen wasn't very big from the look of the dining area but I sat long enough to begin to get impatient. When our food arrived my Hanger steak seemed cooked very quickly. It was tough and chewy despite of its pink bloody center. By the time I could grab my waitress to tell her that my steak was poorly cooked my girlfriend was full on her pasta, and I'd eaten enough of our appetizer and sides to be full as well. Despite me telling my server that Hanger steak was my fav cut and that it seemed as if my steak was cooked too quickly, she suggested that I order another cut to which I was extremely displeased she insisted that I "order something that I'd like" so I obliged and ordered the Porterhouse, medium again. Some 20-25 minutes later she brought out my remade steak and told me that she req it be undercooked, and when I cut into the steak thought it was cooked to what a medium steak SHOULD be and still a bit chewy. Maybe I know nothing about temping steak. I asked her to wrap my steak and she left the table without it. Another server approached my table (redundancy) and asked me if I wanted it wrapped. She returned with both of our meals in 3 carryout containers in a bag. When I get home I discover that they'd wrapped my steak in a separate contain and forgotten the appetizer. I was very unpleased with our visit today and don't think I'd return to...
Read moreI live in Texas and am in Rochester for work. My birthday is April 26th and I had a friend coming up from Texas to spend my birthday weekend with me so I asked friends at work for suggestions on things to do and places to eat and Pasta Villa was recommended several times. We went on the Friday before my birthday and the wait was about 45 min and we were both starving so we decided we would go somewhere else. After leaving we got squirrel side tracked (lol) and when we had gotten a handle on our attention spans we realized we still hadn't eaten and decided to call Pasta Villa and ask how long the wait was now. They informed us it was about 30 min, and I asked if my name could be put on the list, that we were on the way. The host told me their policy is that they will not put your name on the list unless you're already there. I explained that I live out of state and this place was highly recommended, and it's my birthday weekend, and my friend came up there and we wanted to to try out the Italian food in NY. The host was gracious enough to make an exception and we rushed there to eat. Problem was that my friend had experienced an allergic reaction to what we think may have been a different laundry detergent and he had hives everywhere and rash and it was extremely itchy. On top of that, earlier that day I had bought two new supplements I hadn't taken before and I took the daily dose of both prior to picking my friend up at the airport. We get inside and get seated and my friend is sitting there about to claw his skin off and I began having chest pains, pain when I would breathe in, and a fever with intense cold chills that made me shake like I had Parkinson's of a severe drinking problem. The food came out and I was feeling horrible so I ate a little of it, which was incredible, and asked my friend if he could have them box up my food and if he would mind if I waited in the car for him. He didn't mind at all so I went to the passenger side of the car and got in feeling so sick but at this time not knowing what was going on. I see my guy friend walking towards the car being tailed by the host and our waitress. He comes and opens my door and there these sweet ladies are with a cannoli in a to-go box with a candle in it. They light the candle carside and sing happy birthday to me at my car in the cold!!!!! I couldn't believe their kindness, empathy, level of service, and generosity. The food was INCREDIBLE... but the service was even better and can't be beat. I HIGHLY recommend this...
Read moreI have been here at least 50X as I have lived in this area my entire life. I've never had a bad meal nor has anyone in my party ever had any complaints that I remember in regards to food, beverages or service. You won't get a bad server, because I think most if not all of the servers hae been there for ten yesrs or more! The restaurant, bar and restrooms are always clean. They staff will even stop by your table and brush the crumbs off after your dinner salads ( amazing) and bread!! The only minor issue that some may consider an inconvenience is having to wait to be seated, especially during they're most busy dining days and hours such as Friday and Saturday evenings. Lunches can get pretty busy also.. The food and service is well worth the wait and they always go out of their way to make sure you feel welcome and attended too. Nothing like the places where the bartenders refuse to make eye contact with you as you have been standing there with a $20 in your hand for 5 miutes, as they casually chat with a friend or another guest! You will be acknowledged if he bartender can't attend to you as soon as you walk up. if you mingle with other guests at the bar, order a drink and time will pass quicky. inconvenience to have to wait for excellent food and service at a reasonable price there is a simple solution to that. Do not go to Pasta Villa between the hours of 6PM and 9PM, Saturdays, your best bet would be to go before 5PM. They always go out of their way to make you feel welcome and comfortable, relax mingle with other guests and enjoy a drink at the bar and your wait time will pass quicker than it seems. After all who wants to eat at a restaurant where you can walk in any day or time a Friday or Saturday night Prime dinner time and the place is empty and they seat you...
