Went in for a black toner cartridge for my 7 year old Brother laser printer. They had it, but I also was worried that the dispensing tray that the cartridge rides in might be getting old. They did not have my model tray, and the Assistant Manager told me they don't make it anymore, the printer was so far out of date and I could never get parts anymore. BS, I can buy any part for that printer online, but I said nothing since I was trying to stay local. I said OK, the printer is old, and a bit cranky, what do you recommend. He immediately went to HP. I looked at the complete row of Canon printers, he said he would not buy a Canon on a bet. I asked about another Brother, he said that the mechanics were OK, but the software was always out of date, another don't buy in his mind. At this point, he had eliminated about 70% of the printers sitting on their shelves. He also did not like the Epson refill concept, said that all that ink crystalizing in the tank was a bad thing, and they were expensive. There goes another 15% of his stock. Huh? He put me in front of an inkjet HP, a fairly expensive one, and said for my use, which I explained, was the best. I was not adverse to buying a new printer, but more happened. He said the new cartridges that come with the printer always come with just a bit of ink, and you get a few pages and maybe some alignment, and you will need new cartridges. Another $110. Then he put the Staples Protection and Tech Help contract in front of me and said I needed this, due to Cleveland's bad electricity. I know all about it, but another $60 was the breaking point. I said I will run with the manufacturer's warranty, but he insisted I needed it. No, thanks. It kept popping up until I said, "Look, I'm spending $60 betting you that this will break". I said that was how Consumer Reports categorizes these "extended warranties". His reply was that Consumer Reports was a junk magazine full of ka-ka. He also said he makes no money off the Staples warranty. Give me a break... I sold for years in my career, commissions are a big part of sales. And don't bad mouth Consumer Reports. What did they do to him? Apparently he had a Kia Soul that had been bad, and CR liked them. My wife drives one, it has been a great car and I told him so. He said no way he buys a Kia. He drives Jeeps, which if you look in CR, are poorly rated. I told him I had three Jeeps over the decades, all leakers, but NOT HIS!! When it came to talking about setting up the printer, he said "Good Luck, and Maybe you'll get it", as if I needed that extended warranty to set up a printer. Turned out to be the easiest printer I ever set up. And those 'empty cartridges'? I've run off over 100 pages so far, and the software is telling me the cartridges are still at 100%. So much for that. The warranty kept popping up, and I just said no so many times I finally told him to ring me up, printer and two extra cartridges, just to get out of the damn store. The extended warranty was put in the bag with the cartridges. I threw it away. I'll say this, he is aggressive, never said a curse word, clean and neat. But his negativity factor is off the charts. I was an Industrial Engineer for decades, mixed in with about a decade of sales to engineers, a tough crowd. His style in my world would show him the door. He needs to Cool His Jets. The printer is fine, glad I bought a new one, but man, if I had to do it again, probably would be on Amazon. I love buying local, but this guy.....He did have on a good mask that was tight...
Read moreCROOKS Really unacceptable experience recently with this location. First visit, was given the wrong printer ink, even after providing the correct product number. Second visit: returned the next day to exchange the ink cartridges that I was told would work. Then they sold me a re-taped box of printer cartridges. The 18 or 19 y/o sales guy could not have cared less about helping me with the return. The manager had to step in to complete the return and to provide the correct cartriges.
One week later and after printing only three pages --the black XL ink cartridge was empty or dried up.
Lesson learned: if Staples tries to sell you a box of printer cartridges in a box that was previously opened -- refuse it and make them get you a box that's unopened. Obviously someone returned their old empty printer cartridges and Staples turned around and resold to me. Now I'm stuck having to purchase new cartridges.
Some people have no shame!
I will make sure EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT THIS POOR SERVICE AND DISHONESTY from this Staples store.
I'm sure Jillian H. will provide the same canned reply, "Sorry you had a bad experience...and hope to see you again." Not addressing the broader issue beyond a bad experience should tell future customers all they...
Read moreZanny was amazing and walked me thru the complicated steps to download and print my own copies from email pdf file. Patient, kind and so helpful 2 days ago.
Today, I go in for the same help and Zanny wasn't there. Unfortunately, Ashley was the ONLY employee there. She was rude and went over the steps verbally and fast and lost me completely. She didn't care I didn't understand and was so frustrated, I begin to cry. She started helping people who came after me and turned her back and wouldn't help me. I printed the wrong forms and was so distraught. Ashley should NEVER be left as the only person in charge if she doesn't actually help people. Maybe she had a problem with me personally but I'd hate to think she treats everyone as coldly as she treated me.
If you encounter Ashley, do yourself a favor and go to the Chattanooga store.
I'll only go back for help if Zanny is there. My experience with the 2 was so EXTREMELY opposite of each other. Zanny deserves a promotion while Ashley shouldn't even work there. Or at least not by herself. Rude and ugly people should only work a stock room amd NOT...
