Update August 2023. Benches have been fixed and the party park looks better. Watch out for the animal hole off to the side of the big field.
Update March 2022. The park is in need of some repair. The benches are mostly broken and it could use a real good clean up. As well the trail gets very muddy even after a little rain.
The Morris Canal Park is a small park with about 6 parking spaces located just past the Stop & Shop and the office building on Broad Street. Park has a nice walk through area with a couple of bridges over the small stream running through it. It also has about a half dozen picnic tables located close to a big open field that makes for a great place to play. It's from this area you can actually see the Parkway. You can walk alongside the original canal quite a ways in this park as well. I'd like to see a solid fence put at the top of the hill by broad Street to prevent all the garbage from blowing down into the park, especially into the canal.

Read moreWell worth a visit. Residents should get involved in helping to make the park nicer. Once in a while I see a guy hanging out by the back gate of the entrance. The more residents go there, the less it's used for unsavory activity. I've been there a few times and never felt unsafe, though not thrilled with men hanging out for whatever other than to take a walk and enjoy the nature.
The park is a naturalistic setting and after a bad storm you can see some damage, but it's beautiful too to remind us of nature's wrath. There are renewed plantings in the spring, but residents can make donations to the conservatory to help the park gain more beauty when the natural order of the habitat gets disrupted and more flower diversity is needed. There are birds and bees and flowers and trees, so you get a flavor of old New Jersey. There's a small table and grill area and a walking path that can be of various lengths depending on your interests. Overall it's a great space that serves to help with drainage and...
Read moreMorris Canal Park and Nature Reserve is perhaps the most beautiful and educational of all of the places listed under the auspices of the Clifton Department of Parks and Recreation. It is located on Broad Street, just north of Allwood Road, and extends on a strip of land formerly occupied by the Morris Canal, one of the preeminent waterways used for shipping in the 19th Century. The current stretch of the reserve extends for about a quarter mile in length between Broad Street on the west and the Garden State Parkway on the east. It has numerous historical artifact recreations within, many created as Eagle Scout projects, several wildflower gardens, several walking paths including its own signature path called The Towpath, which traverses its entire length paralleling Broad Street, a large picnic area with a grill, and numerous commemorative plaques and dedications including several to the honor of the late Jack Keupfer, whose brainchild this reserve is. It is a truly bucolic setting, done...
