I started Simple Solutions Fitness after getting a diagnoses of spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), spondylosis (spinal stress fractures), and spondylolisthesis (a breakage of parts of the spine vertebrae slips out of place), and degenerative disc disease. Whew!
After finishing PT, I wanted to find some place where I could get stronger and take better care of myself. I am intimidated by most gyms and so I would always quit after 1-2 months. Here I enjoy working out, it's fun, it's not painful but it's always challenging me to get better, stronger, each time I go. Now I have already had my "6th month anniversary" and am on month 7, going consecutively and only missing once!! I'm so proud and happy about that.
Steven was great in that if I felt pain doing any exercises, he has an amazing ability to immediately give me an alternative exercise that works those muscles to make me stronger without pain. He didn't doubt me or look down on me about that, EVER!
The small group atmosphere feels so safe, fun, warm, and you feel like you can be just a 'normal' going in and chatting while working out, never feeling judged and leave proud about what you accomplished. Everyone I've ever met has been so nice and fun and pleasant. I feel like I have my "workout buddies" when I go there now. :)
I also like how the plans are tailor fit for you each time. I never knew until recently that Steven spends several hours working on our plans, tailor fit just for us. That's pretty amazing. No wonder why the plans work so well for me and I do different movements than others! (He makes them so it works around my back issues....it's great!)
My back has become stronger, I'm in less pain, I can lift more without hurting myself, get off the ground faster, and just overall keep feeling stronger.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been working with coach Steven Mack for several months now. When I started with Steven I was frustrated with my training. I felt like my training was aimless and I lacked goals and a plan. Steven really listened to me and helped me set some goals I'm really excited to be working towards. The training is challenging but fun and I have been making steady progress.
I'm so happy that Steven challenged me to work towards some goals that I had always been scared about, for example, pull-ups and bench press. It's so rewarding to see progress from week to week. Steven is so great about listening to my concerns, he answers all my questions and his feedback is always on point.
In addition to making steady progress in my training, as well as learning a lot about the principles of strength training (one of the things I really wanted from coaching), another thing I'm really happy about is that Steven's programming is allowing me to understand progress in terms other than scale weight. I have always been focused on scale weight as a measurement of my progress in training. However, now I'm focusing more on progression in terms of strength and the weight that I'm moving, how particular exercises feel, how good my performance feels at the gym...and it's just really, really awesome!
