I took a class here over the weekend where I build an electric guitar. The course absolutely blew me away. I had decently high expectations going in and they were still exceeded. The instructor Ed, really knew his stuff. I've taken college classes where the professor didn't seem as knowledgeable about a subject as Ed did about guitar building. We started with a block of poplar and a block of maple and over the 3 days of the class; shaped them to be a telecaster. I spent at least 12 hours carving a neck out of that maple and I couldn't be happier with the result. The guitar, through Ed's careful instruction, is at least at the level of a store bought guitar of equal value to the cost of the class, and I learned a ton in the process. The class was a really varied class too in terms of skill levels with the various equipment. Ed was able to ensure that we all worked at a similar pace despite the differences we all had in skill set. I would absolutely recommend this course to a friend.

Just finished a wand turning class, and it was a blast! Ended up making two wands, didn't realize each ticket was for you and a date, but oh well. Devon was great, even had refreshments while some wizards movie played and we turned wood! First wand was fairly basic, turned out pretty well, and then learned something fancy for the second - a captive ring! Not bad for my second class! I'll give credit to the instructor, though, he walked me through it. It's a good time, and a new skill. Don't expect perfection, either. It's easy to get the basics, but takes practice to get good. Might want to allow yourself some time on either end of class if you're like me and not fast. Also, book early, classes fill up!

My family took a class today, and it was awesome! The instructors were knowledgeable and fun. My youngest who hates everything even stated that it was really fun. We are already looking at other classes to take, and we are ready to try making pens on our own.

I don't normally write reviews, but here I am. I'm looking to upgrade my shop and wanted to stay relatively local and away from the big box stores. I called looking for a Jet 1632 and was told he thinks he has one in stock. Great for me, an hour drive and I head out. Walked the store twice when I got there, and then was asked if I was ready to check out. I say no and that I called earlier for this particular drum sander and was getting checked out, before I saw the item. The clerk took me to the warehouse side of the store and showed me a different variation (this one had an oscillation feature) and was $650 more than the advertised price of $1349. I asked about the 1836 model as I can justify paying additional monies for a bigger unit. The issue with this one was whether or not the sander came with a stand. A call was made by another associate to Jet (hence the second star) and was told it does come with the stand and it should be in a different box. Alas, they cant find the other box. So I asked if I pay for the sander can they ship me the box for the stand when it comes in. I was told no, because shipping has a cost, and was advised to not purchase the unit because it was incomplete. Well, so does my gas to get to this store. Then I asked if there was a comparable unit available and was told that there is nothing available. Mind you, I passed 2 SuperMax Drum Sanders by the front door. So, I left with no machine, and a bad taste in my mouth. P.S. While in the parking lot, I checked Amazon. They have the one I'm looking for, FREE shipping, and it'll get here sooner than 4 weeks from now. Best of luck

Update: I was contacted by the GM of this location. He was sympathetic to the plight which I found myself. He offered me a couple options to reach an amicable outcome. After careful consideration, I am now the proud owner of a Jet 1836 and look forward to the unboxing and setup. Unfortunately, snowmageddon 2025 has arrived and I'm too busy digging out. Thanks to...

I recently completed the “Building an Electric Guitar” class instructed by Ed Panzer, and not only did I have a great time listening to music and talking guitar for 3 days, but as a bonus walked away with a fully functioning Tele style guitar.

The description of the class, which is provided on the Woodcraft of Columbus website, is spot on. I am in the sub-beginner category as I really don’t have any useful wood working ability or skills. That being said, with Ed’s guidance, as well as the help and patience of the 3 other students attending the class, I was able to complete the guitar (less the painting/finishing) over the allotted 3 days of class time. I’m pretty sure Ed wouldn’t let you walk away with an unfinished guitar as he stayed and answered numerous questions well past last call on the 3rd day of classes.

Just to be clear, this is not a “kit” that you would see online for $150 that already comes pre-cut and ready to assemble. I was provided a block of poplar for the guitar body, a block of mahogany for the neck, a pre-cut rosewood fret board, the pickups, and all the necessary hardware. The cutting and sanding of the guitar body, as well as the cutting and sanding of the neck (a lot of sanding), the soldering of the pickups, and the fret dressing were all completed in class.

And I have to agree with another reviewer of Ed’s class that the facility and staff at Woodcraft of Columbus were fantastic. The tools seemed of high quality, they were well maintained, and the classroom was well organized, clean, and had plenty of space for everyone to work.

Ed Panzer is a skilled Luthier (he brought in a beautiful acoustic guitar he had recently completed) who seemed to really enjoy taking the time over a very full 3 days to educate us on the basics of guitar building and I have absolutely no reservations recommending the class to...

I'm not a wood worker or a carpenter; I'm just a DYI guy so I can't speak to how deeply knowledgeable these guys are, but I have always had a good experience here.

The guys at Woodcraft have been very helpful with recommending workable, effective solutions for me. They've handed me tools I've never heard of before - like little Japanese saws with super bendy blades - and sure enough, they were the perfect tools for the job.

Today I was very impressed with the help I received from "Employee 508058" (I didn't catch his name and I'm looking at the receipt.)

I brought in a sales flyer that had several items I'd circled in it. The gentleman helping me saw what I'd circled as I was leafing through the flyer. He proceeded to fetch everything I'd circled, even things I had I forgotten that I wanted, on pages that I flipped right past.

I was seriously impressed. This cat was on the BALL. Fr fr, no cap. It seemed like he knew the flyer cover to cover, or he has an eidetic memory. He knew exactly where everything in the store was and was able to answer all my questions concisely and without hesitation.

I've shopped here several times over the years, and I've always been happy with the service I've received from the other employees, but today was something special.

Y'all better make sure you're paying 508058 well because I'm going to give him a business card and tell him to email us if he's ever thinking of changing jobs.

Seriously, nicely...
