Anytime Fitness — Attraction in Gainesville

All of the staff at the front desk were racist except Ms.Karen- the behavior was unacceptable. There were two guys and three ladies up front. When I walked in I was with three other people and all of us are black. No one greeted us - one of the guys seen us first and basically refused to acknowledge us by simply avoiding eye contact and trying to speak to others purposely even though I was right in front of his computer and the other staff went into a small room and took a sec to come back out and by the way it looked one of the ladies only came back out to see if we were still at desk in hopes we were gone. At that point about 5 to 6 minutes had passed and we still were not greeted yet instead she asked us did we need anything instead of welcoming us and the manner in which she said it wasn’t very pleasant to hear at all. They all looked at us like imposters or as if we didn’t belong. One of my friends asked them did we all need a membership to go work out because they wanted to basically try out the place as a guest before signing up and the lady behind the desk told her she doesn’t know if she can do that— she starred at us with displeasure in her eyes and it showed MASSIVELY. This was our first time ever coming to an gym and had heard good things about it so we wanted to try it out as our first option hoping it would work out perfectly. But overall, was left highly disappointed in customer service- satisfaction- and simply at the fact of not being able to find my forever gym in a place I’ve heard so highly about. Words truly can’t describe how displeased and disgusted I was at the staff just absolutely ridiculous at their behavior. Ive never been more uncomfortable visiting a place for the first time and I pray that no one else may experience what we did because the service received was very unprofessional-unnecessary- and uncalled for. I have been a member of Anytime Fitness and a frequent user for 3 years. I was using UF gym for many years before and some other gyms for short periods.

I have mixed feelings about Anytime Fitness in Gainesville (Tower rd/Archer intersection.

First the good: -it is close to where I live -it is next to publix, so I can shop after gym. -it is open all the time

Next the ok: (can improve) -staff are usually friendly. -not enough or willing people to spot when lifting heavy -cleaning supplies need to change more frequently, (wiping towels are usually wet from over use)

Next mild bad: it is a bit tight in terms of square foot. It limits what they can have in the facility.

Finally the bad (makes me think if I should cancel my membership):

Occasionally some weird customers make it very uncomfortable to be inside. I would not take my kid or wife when those weird people are at the gym. These people are NOT abundant, but you need a few to make the place look like a jailhouse gym for MS13 gang. To make myself clear, I do not really care who they are or what they look like or what they wear. What is bothering is loud cursing, frequent loud burping, not cleaning up the sweaty benches after use, leaving the gym equipment randomly scattered wherever they are done using them. In short NOT RESPECTING ANYONE ELSE IN THE GYM. The place looks disgusting with some weird fat dude burping like a Hurley Davidson engine for 20 minutes. I gave up trying to stay there. I just leave the gym when a disgusting character moves in and starts cursing, burping and farting.

I’ve struggled for a long time trying to find a gym that was welcoming helpful and affordable and I’ve found that at Anytime Fitness in Gainesville Florida. The Anytime Fitness team (Felipe, Kristen, Sam & Lindsay) go above and beyond to help you reach your fitness goals while also bringing you into their fitness community which feels like a family. Everytime I walk through the door I’m greeted by name and asked how I’m doing l. It may seem small but it’s actually a pretty big deal because I don’t feel like I’m just a number and they truly care how you’re doing. Some days I’ll walk in and it’ll be a great day and I’ll get in a great workout. Other days I’ll walk in and let them know it’s been a bad day and they all give me 100% of their attention and time and to provide the space and opportunity to talk about whatever is going on. Sometimes you just need to vent, other times you may be going through something and need a little patience or modifications during a workout or even an attitude adjustment. Whatever you need the team is there to support you in whatever phase of life you’re in. I do group training with coach Sam and he is AMAZING!!!
