As someone with a caffeine allergy, I was disappointed by both the limited options and poor service at this boba shop. When I inquired about caffeine-free drinks, I was told only their slushes were available. I did not want a slush. Traditional caffeine-free options like brown sugar boba and taro milk tea were off-limits because, according to the staff, they add caffeinated tea to both ā which is unusual since these drinks aren't traditionally made with tea.
When I asked if they could prepare these drinks without tea, they refused. I'm unsure if this is because they pre-mix their ingredients (which raises concerns about freshness) or if the staff member was simply unwilling to accommodate my request - which is strange, how is it so difficult not to add an ingredient?!
We did end up getting a drink for my husband (mango slush), but even that was disappointing. He noted that it tasted artificial and threw most of it away, which aligns with my suspicion about pre-mixed ingredients.
The service was equally disappointing. I visited during mid-day, and the cashier seemed visibly annoyed at having to put down her phone to assist me. She would rather lose my business than help me find a suitable caffeine-free alternative. This has been, by far, the worst service and most limited selection I've experienced at any boba shop (and I drink boba 3-5 times a week). I will not be returning to this location or any Boba King. At 6:30 PM on Tuesday, October 8th, I found the place completely dead with two workers sitting on their phones. While I don't mind employees being on their phones when it's slow, the state of the establishment was unacceptable.
The light bulbs were covered in dust, the windows were dirty, the walls looked distressed, and the ordering/dining area was generally run down. I attempted to call ahead with some questions but never received an answer, which only added to my suspicions that the place was in poor shape.
Given the lack of cleanliness in the lobby, I now have serious concerns about the safety and hygiene of their boba. This experience has left me questioning whether I'll return...
