We had a day off work in June and headed toward the Sugarcreek area. We decided to price some bridges that can support a tractor and myself driving across and will not wash away when water rises. While sampling some wines we later found Kauffman Furniture. You know you are at the correct place when we drive in and a large pavilion and pergola are sitting in the driveway, with awesome furniture everywhere. We sat and relaxed on the patio swing. Ryan appeared and chatted about a bridge and possibilities of meeting at our house a week later to measure for the design. During these times of wood at premium prices & supplies at a minimal, we just assumed in another year construction would start. A week later Ryan was at our house (2 hours away from him!!), making our plans. We had many contractors just blow us off for many years. Not him. So we made the plan for Fall of 2021 to start the project. 4th of July break we went back to order some furniture and hang out. He mentioned someone canceled and they could start framing two days later, way ahead of schedule. This crew showed at 7am (after a two hour drive) and worked non stop until 4 pm; meanwhile it was a sweltering 90 degrees outside. Amazing. A few days later another crew showed and performed the same non-stop impressive work. A few weeks later (due to a small supply shortage), the last crew showed up for all the finishing details. So our project which was supposed to start in the fall was finished by the end of summer. YAY!! I made a few changes throughout the project. We canceled bridge and added a huge deck with Trexx flooring and a beautiful rustic pavilion attached to our house. Just a minor change from the plan - haha! We absolutely love it!!! After years of contractors' pricing and never showing, and others not showing any interest, Kauffman and family are top notch friends now. Ryan & his sister helped us later pick out furniture and tables for our deck and pavilion area. We are excited about it all coming together. Way ahead of schedule!!! Furniture is on they way sometime in winter. That is ok by us. We understand the difficulties this year has been with supply and demand. They produced way ahead of scheduled time, with top quality products, and excellent workers. Ryan was so understanding with all our changes and such a true professional. I still haven't built my bridge, and Ryan is already planning our next years pergola. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! You won't be...
Read moreWe purchased a pavilion from David Kauffman a couple days ago. From start to finish a great experience. David explained everything in detail, answered all our questions and did not pressure us to buy when we said we wanted to think about the purchase first and left. We checked the competition in the area and the comparison was underwhelming to say the least. They were less helpful, less attentive, and their pavilions while similar in price were not the same quality of workmanship (I have a decent amount of carpentry experience). BUT, it gets better! There was a BAD storm the night prior to our visit and all but a few businesses were closed including all the gas stations. We were camping in the area and were planning to drive home that day. David asked us if we had enough gas/diesel fuel to get home and offered to give us either so we could get home. We thanked him for the offer, I had plenty, but WOW, that impressed me! This with fuel prices the highest they have ever been! 20 out of 10 experience. Can't wait to get the pavilion (oh yea, less lead time than the...
Read moreLas Vegas has arrived at Holmes County, Ohio! As all the prior posts say: the selection of furniture at Kauffman's Store is second to none. The folks are friendly. The sales practice, however, deserves a bit more attention. I had selected two great gliders and a matching table. I noted that the bill seemed a bit heavy at the time of purchase, but I believed I was dealing with honest, straight forward folks.
Unbeknownst to me, the salesman added a 10% surcharge, without announcement at any point of the sales talk, to my purchase. If you see the sales slip below, $146 was added to my total purchase under the category of "Woodgrain". Woodgrain? What woodgrain?"...it's all high-density polyethylene with wood grain built into the mold!
Anyways, the Holmes County Amish/Mennonite communities have fully embraced the Las Vegas surcharge practice (e.g., $30 parking, $16 bottles of water, etc.). All and all...ask for full disclosure of their pricing BEFORE you pull...
