Love Country Gatherings. My mom and I both spend a lot of money there when we visit from Columbus and we recommend it to all our friends. Yet, both most recent visits have been disappointing. There's one particular woman working the garden center register that needs customer service and technology training.
First, I thought it would be common sense to not smash two expensive plants down into the same box. But apparently common sense isn't common. We had to have another employee CUT the box open to get them out and rebox them - one of the plants was damaged, but we let it go.
Secondly, I had a $10 off voucher from their reward program. I handed this over to the woman after she told me the initial total. She dabbled around with the screen, then told me to insert my card, even though the total didn't change. I told her this, but she said, "oh yeah, we'll check after." As someone with extensive experience in POS (point-of-sale sytems), that made zero sense. The transaction went through and sure enough she goes, "oh, I guess the 10% didn't stick." I respond, "It was $10, not 10%." She says, "Oh I know."
She RETURNS the entire purchase, I insert my card a SECOND time. Then, she rings everything back up again. Same thing - total didn't change, she tells me to go ahead and insert my card. I said no - you need to ensure the reward is reflected in the total BEFORE the transaction is completed.
After some fiddling again, it was adjusted. Weird. I swipe my card for the third time. Sale complete. That's when I demanded all 3 receipts for my records, which she wasn't planning on giving me.
She then proceeds to condescendingly explain each receipt as she hands them over individually, calling me "honey" and "sweetie" at the end of every sentence.
This isn't mine or my mother's first time experiencing rude and incompetent behavior from this associate, unfortunately. Our previous visit, my mother purchased a long/vining hanging basket that she tossed into a box, tangling it all up. It took HOURS to untangle when we got home, again, damaging the plant.
Everyone else is WONDERFUL, so quite frankly we're shocked she's still there. We can only assume she knows the owners. Which is sad, because it's clear that her passive aggressive nature makes her colleagues uncomfortable and embarrassed as well, not just customers.
I will never use a reward ever again; I rather my banking be accurate and not have to wait three days to ensure my "return" / double charge was reimbursed, than for a measly $10 off. I will also make sure that the next time she tries to check us out/take over the sale from another employee, I'll ask for another associate. Quite literally,...

Read moreI had an odd encounter with an associate. I found mini chairs, probably for a fairy garden, and I thought that they would a perfect addition to some bride and groom figurines I'm going to have at my upcoming wedding. I had stopped in front of them, and was trying to look up the figurines online to show my friend, to ultimately decide if I should buy the chairs or not. I was not holding anyone up/in the way of anything, and I was not messing with the chairs, except to initially get one out to look at it. An associate came over, asking if we needed help finding anything. We both smiled and said, "no thank you." She apparently didn't like/believe that answer and proceeded to step closer into our personal space, staring at my phone with a disgusted look on her face. Meanwhile, I'm continuing to scroll to try to find these figurines that aren't even sold from here, I got them from Hobby Lobby. After a couple agonizing seconds, I once again said, "we're fine, I'm trying to look at something on my phone." She reached past me, snatched up the chair I had gotten out to look at, and threw it back into the pile of other chairs, making them clatter. I'm not sure if she thought we were trying to steal, but why she thought it would be okay to not only invade personal space, but to treat us like trash, I have no idea. My friend and I are good people, and to make assumptions like that when we nicely answered her question the first time, is so odd. Anyways, I didn't get the chairs, and that employee made us want to cry. :( I have no idea what her name was, but she was an older lady with shorter brown-ish hair. Other...
