Mei Mei Asian Supermarket — Attraction in Castro Valley

I visited Meimei Market on its second day of opening and found myself a little disappointed. While I appreciate having a new Chinese market in the area and understand the excitement, I feel it has a way to go before it can be a reliable weekly stop. My main concern is the pricing, which seemed on the expensive side, particularly for the leafy greens. The layout also felt inefficient. There are many random empty spaces throughout the store, making it feel very underutilized. Furthermore, while the refrigerated cases look full, they appear to be stocked with the same item stacked repeatedly to fill the shelves, which gives the illusion of inventory but results in very limited options overall. A big negative for me is the missing prepared foods section (熟食部). This is a staple in most Asian supermarkets and its absence is a letdown. I'm hopeful they plan to add one in the future. Very bad experience shopping at this Chinese market. Bought a Durian cost $80 as non refrigerated fresh fruit. This Durian is not close to ready to eat after open. I called and ask to talk to owner and said owner not here. The store associate is very rude and sounds like is my fault not putting the Durian on the side for period time wait till ripe. I ask for refund and denied my request. Over all experience there price are slightly higher compare to most Asian market and which is fine if you get customer service. It's nice to have a big box Asian grocery store so close to home. The seafood selection is definitely it's main selling points, lots of fresh options. The veggies and chicken looks fresh and good quality. Lots of snacks and other dry food stuff also.

The three star is entirely because they do not have high quality pre cut hot pot or BBQ meat just yet. Imo if they're smart, they should prioritize creating those offerings to cater to the diverse demographic in the area. Take some foot traffic away from ranch 99, Osaka market,...
