TLDR: Avoid this salon unless you have brunette pin-straight hair and want minimal changes. I, with loosely curly hair, paid $400 for a coerced, rushed hairstyle that took 32 minutes of Christine's (the stylist) focused time. The color difference is only noticed in the sun, and haircut was choppy with my natural hair. Also, I had some bleached hair in the front and Christine made no attempt to darken it to make it uniform with the rest of my hair. So I still have very obviously blonde pieces in the front while the rest of my hair is brown. I waited four months before posting this review, and I still regret my D-Rock experience. The barely noticeable highlights and bad haircut could've been done better by myself (I literally have no experience), saving $400. This salon is only suitable for those with pin-straight, brunette hair seeking minimal changes. I have loose, dark brown, curly hair and wanted to recreate the silver highlights I got two years ago. Despite specifying "silver highlights," on the website and calling to ensure its possibility, I walked into the appointment to hear the stylist say she would not do it as it was unsafe and impossible (despite past pictures of my hair proving its possibility). After 40 minutes of persuasion and a consultation from another stylist about the silver, I was coerced into light all-over highlights and a haircut. The entire process, including applying foils/color, washing/toner, and cutting/blow-drying, took 32 minutes from her, the other 28 were waiting. The haircut was terrible—uneven layers and length. When my hair curled, the unblended difference was evident. I paid $400 for a dye job barely visible even in the sun and a choppy-looking haircut that needed fixing. D-Rock coerced me into a style I didn't want. Before my appointment, I saw reviews about how the stylists are “realistic/honest” with what you want, but I do not think this is genuinely the case, in my experience, the stylist chose the style that required the least amount of effort and time from her and the style she could charge me the highest price for. I will not be coming back here, my experience has shown me the bad reviews were indeed correct, and also that the stylists only care about charging the most possible for the bare minimum. Anywhere else would've charged around $200 for this, I have asked friends and even got a consultation from my old stylist. If all of this is not enough to persuade you, I paid less for the silver hair I previously had, which took a total of 5 hours of my old stylists time, and with three hours of that being dedicated bleaching time. Please do not go here, your wallet and reflection will be in pain!!! Picture is from same day

I made an appt for a Full Head Balayage. I exactly knew what I wanted done on my hair so I showed the image to the stylist and told her this is what I'm looking for. She took some time and asked questions if I had color done before and such. She explained everything to me that she will do my hair exactly as the picture I had showed her but she might not be able to get my hair to the exact shades. Other salons I have been to were able to get colors out of my hair, why couldn't she!?? The stylist didn't have time to dry my hair so I left with wet hair. She just dried one small part for me to see and right at the salon I told her that my hair looks like the same way I had walked in (no difference). I got home and dried my hair and literally it looked no different. I went in the next day and I showed my hair to the manager. I explained the situation to her. I mentioned that I am going away for vacation and that I am not happy with what the stylist had done. She replied with I am sorry. Come back within 14 days and the stylist will fix it for you. I said ok thats fine, it will be after I get back from vacation. It sucks to go on vacation with this hair. The manager made me an appt. SO, I got back from vacation. I called the salon to confirm the time and to adjust the time to go in sooner if they had anything earlier. Keep in mind I have two little girls under 2 years old which I had find a sitter to watch them. The manager took the phone from the receptionist and said I talked to the salon owner Don and he said he is not able to do anything further with your hair. It is what it is. Its upsetting to pay $200 and get treated that way. They canceled on me. If they couldn't do anything with my hair, than why did the manager make me an appointment to get it fixed. She saw me in person and saw what my hair looked like. She also kept saying wash your hair, the color will get lighter. PLEASE LOOK AT THE IMAGES! (what I asked for and the result after washing my hair about 3/4 times) DONT GO HERE. You better off to go to another hair salon that knows what to do with hair.

Okay, y'all! Curly hair checking in here. I was extremely scared to come in and get my hair cut with the terrible experiences I've had my whole life in hair salons. Many do not understand curl patterns and do not listen. Christine did my hair and I was especially nervous seeing some particularly harsh critiques to her ability in these reviews. As someone with naturally quite curly and a more of a coarse texture; I'm amazed. I'm even a bit annoyed with how unfair some of these reviews seem. I could tell Christine was being cautious and did ask me a few times what I thought the issue was with my hair and what I was trying to achieve. In the future I'd probably prefer her to lead a touch more and feel more confident with my hair because I feel like she gave me the best hair for my texture and shape that I've ever gotten. The front desk was also very kind and friendly. AND MY GOODNESS THE PERSON WHOM WASHED MY HAIR, I wish I could recall her name but she was a very polite older woman who was so tender and gentle but thorough. My whole service was only $85 and I would've paid more than half of that for the wash alone. Super clean environment, really well put together, transparent on pricing and I've usually paid $125+ for a curly cut that I hated so this was awesome for me! (Please mind you, they did not style so don't @ my review if you get a whole curly cut, wash, curl treatment, dye job, blow out and braided style and it's more than $85 🙄)

WOW, this place is amazing! Recently opened in 2014 in a cool part of Fairfax, just off the Fairfax Government Center shopping district, this innovative salon is definitely worlds ahead of its time! From the friendly staff to the cool massage shampoo chairs, Don and his team know how to treat their customers!

The salon is located on the corner of Ridge Top and Government Center Pkwy. There is garage parking in the building, and it's FREE! I snagged a nice parking spot in front. The building is brand new with some cool shops including D Rock Salon. The host/receptionist was awesome, she even gave me directions when I was lost, yup, I am direction challenged. They offer beverages of the coffee and water kind, and are great hosts! There's a nice changing room with cool smocks to wear during the appointment.

Don sat with me to discuss my hair likes/dislikes, and made some professional recommendations. I showed him photos of my hair's past life, including some photos that I dreaded...note to self, blonde is not my best friend. The consultation area is also the coloring area, and it's seriously state of the art. There is free wifi, so no boredom existed during my 2.5 hour visit. The music aka satellite radio was the best. How on earth did I exist at other salons? The most amazing experience was the shampoo and cleanup...they have these 'not to be heard of in my world' fantastic shampoo chairs..."complete elevation to a horizontal position" and surprising "massage" chairs. My shampoo experience was the best!

The vibe at the salon was so comfortable. Everyone was friendly and attentive. I loved the look of my new hair, it was so natural looking(for someone who is not a dark ash blonde", and the highlights just weaved in so consistent. The cut was perfect. Don definitely showed his expertise with the blow-out and cut.

I can't stop thinking about this experience! Trust me, I've been to a lot of places, and have never had such an amazing time. If you're looking for a stylist in the NOVA area,...
