Natural History Society of Maryland — Attraction in Overlea

This is the kind of local place that makes you say, "how come I never knew this was here?!". The Natural History Society of MD has a collection with serious heft and yet it is still unknown to many locals. Take a friend to explore the incredible taxidermy and artifact collections or enjoy their hands-on, high quality programs (offered to adults, families, or children). Some of the best naturalists in and around Baltimore frequent this place and volunteer their time to lead programs that are top notch and extremely affordable. If you have a specific interest, they have clubs like the Lepidoptera club and Fossil club with guided area trips that often fill right away. I appreciate the charm and down-to-earth feel of the space. It's not a sleek, modern museum, instead it feels cozy and approachable, which I'm glad about! What a fantastic place! We went for an Archaeological presentation and were so very impressed by the whole place! The layout, the displays, the staff AND volunteers, the gift shop, the number of classes, the variety of programs - just everything! The presenter, Zach Singer, was amazing. Very friendly and informative, yet spoke so even lay people could understand his material. He took everyone's questions - and there were a lot. Clearly he is very passionate about his work.
