This is the cutest, sweetest little yarn shop (inside a fabric/craft shop) in the area! They have classes (beginner level to more advanced stuff) and is a great place to gift a crafty friend a class or gift card to. The people are always so kind and helpful, and bonus points for when a place is patient with your older family that you bring in. This place definitely feels like your fun aunt opened up shop and just wants you to come hang out!! Feels authentic AF, super local and just homemade (as in, not trying so hard to appeal to the masses, rather they just want to make sure YOU are okay). LOVE That in a business (it's hard to find!). I'm also obsessed with their books!! They have a national parks knitting book, a harry potter one (love) and a knitting comic book to die for. Also a book about crocheting brown/black girls and I LOVE that.
Bonus bonus points for being a space that feels so safe and comfortable for POC and folks all across the wide range of queerness or nuerospiciness. This yarn shop is owned by a mother and black/mixed race daughter (who I think is the majority owner) so it's technically minority owned, but the daughter doesn't live in Maryland, so if you walk in and don't see a younger black girl working, she's just behind the scenes. Can't praise the women that run and work in this shop enough! the community loves this gem! Staff is so sweet and funny. Be sure to follow them on IG too...
Read moreAwesome shop paired up with a fabric and sewing shop! I came on a Wednesday night and the store was popping, apparently they have open nights where you can just come and sit and work on your project with other folks who do crafts. There were at least 15 people there tonight, probably closer to 20, working on their projects and chatting it up.
I came for interchangeable knitting needles and they have a huge selection of tools, not just interchangeable sets and standalone needle pairs etc but also packages with the individual cables and needles to pair together as you prefer. That was great for me since I am not ready yet to buy a whole expensive set, but was able to buy parts that I'll be able to re-use in the long term so it's not a waste. The vibe was great and the woman who checked me out was super kind! Will definitely be coming back here for...
Read moreI’m sooooo glad I found Sharon and Sweet Pea Fiber!! Frustrated with trying to learn how to knit from YouTube, I called the store to see if they had an upcoming class. There wasn’t one available until after the holiday but I really wanted to learn immediately so I could knit during my time off. Sharon graciously offered to open another class for me the next day!! Wow!! I registered my sister as well and we had a blast!! In just 2 hours I learned how to cast on, knit, pearl and finish the work (bind?). If you are like me and having trouble learning online, RUN do not walk to Sweet Pea Fiver!!! What a fun and cozy place!! Such a beautiful selection of yarns and supplies and the most friendly and welcoming environment!!! Thank...
