Top 3 best African food in the DMV. Idk how this place has some bad reviews. The food is exquisite and the owner is so nice and informative. Seriously... This is like one of the best African food restaurants, that don't skimp on ingredients and you can taste that because everything tastes so authentic and fresh. Wow the yassa chicken is amazing, their jollof is some of the best you can get in town.. moist, tender and flavorful, honestly senegalese jollof is probably the best jollof & I'm not even senegalese. But Iāll be adult enough to admit some things like that.
Vegetables are tender and amazing too. The Nems, which is a Senegalese take to egg rolls is amazinggg along with its dipping sauce.
Attieke and the fish it comes with, DELISH!!
The Bissap drink is unique in flavor and delicious, we love the ginger drink too.
You can enter through two ways the back has been easiest for me since thereās parking there.
The presentation of the food is amazing too, ālooks fancyā lol Hadnāt had Senegalese in ages and decided to dine in, at the time The owner took his time to carefully explain the menu to us. Im very impressed with this place. Very professional & friendly. Keep it up guys. A great representation of African food and service
Tip: as often with african/ Caribbean foods a lot of things arenāt made quickly, especially if you want it to taste good, so Iād call about 30 mins before for pick up as the last time I had to wait about an extra 15 mins or so after calling 30 mins ahead, but I did have a larger order too. And the young man up front was apologetic about it & seemed to genuinely care. But Iād say call atleast 20-30 mins...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went with a friend from Senegal šøš³ and had a nice time all in all.
I ordered the jollof rice with chicken and vegetables, and it was cooked and seasoned well.
I also ordered the meat patties, but they were a disappointment because of 2 things. This first is the dough, which is too thick and heavy. Second, there was more dough than filling. The filling was very sparse, but the flavor was good. I won't order again, though.
I ordered a to-go meal for my mother lamb fried rice as well, and it was delicious. She really enjoyed it. I will order for myself next time it was that good.
The ambiance was nice, but for me, there were a couple of things I didn't like. For example, on every table, there were place settings with plates and artificial flowers. They were not removed when our dishes came, so what is the point. All they did was take up the needed space on the table.
Also, the vases that are on each table are too big. There should never be anything on the table that should hinder customers from seeing whom they are eating with and feeling like they have to maneuver around this big vase of flowers. It kinda ruins the point of going out when you have trouble seeing the people you are dining with.
I will go back because the food was delicious but I don't know if I will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTaste: 5/5. Chez Dior was my first experience with Senegalese food, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. When my Aunt (who can speak Wolof) ordered āNamsā I was expecting some sort of traditional Senegal cuisine; however, fried spring rolls came. Apparently, Vietnam brought fried spring rolls to Senegal, and the people there loved them so much that they kept them around.
In addition to that, I got the Yassa Chicken entree. I found the lemon-onion stew to be super tasteful and the chicken was very moist and came right off the bone. Wonderful food. Service: 5/5. The guy running the front of the house was super nice. He was there when we needed him and was gone when we didnāt. Vibe: 5/5. The most BANGING restaurant music Iāve ever experienced. I NEED their playlist. Beyond that, a chill and casual spot. Cost: 4/5. Not the cheapest place ever, but if you wanted to you could get 2 meals out of most of the entrees.
I donāt know much about Senegal, but now I know a little bit more about its food and culture from visiting Chez Dior. I really enjoyed the experience, and will revisit if Iām ever in...
