Whenever my wife and I have family visiting from out of town, we always take them to Spice 6. The combination of delicious fresh food, beautiful decor, amazingly polite and helpful staff, and very affordable prices keeps us coming back.
As a Pakistani American, I was skeptical at first, assuming the flavors of this unique fusion restaurant would be watered down. But Spice 6 has managed to keep all the authentic flavors while lowering the spiciness to levels reasonable for anyone. I'm particularly a fan of the chicken, which is always moist and delicious, wrapped in their famous fresh naan (cooked in an authentic tandoor) with tikki masala sauce on top and some tamarind chutney and green chutney for a little sweet and spicy touch. My wife gets the rice bowl, also delicious and a little easier to eat, but I think the fresh naan bread is a must-try for everyone. The samosa chaat is also always fresh and delicious, and the mango lassi is nice with the meal or as dessert afterwards.
The decor is elegant, fun, and deeply cultural, all the way down to the richly colored walls, gold serving trays, and authentic South Asian music playing softly overhead.
I cannot say enough about the genuinely polite and helpful staff. They are always patient, which is especially important given the build-your-own-bowl/pizza/wrap style of the restaurant, and serve every customer with a smile and 'how are you'. More importantly, instead of staying behind the counter, the staff will regularly visit customers at their tables to ask about their food and experience and whether there is anything they can do or get for them. I am visited by staff at my table at least once every time I eat there, and the staff always make polite conversation with my guests from out of town, occasionally bringing something complimentary for dessert as a welcome.
Finally, as a medical student married to another graduate student, I have to keep a tight budget when eating out, and I can honestly say that Spice 6 has very reasonable prices for large and filling portion sizes. I look forward to coming back again and again. Don't miss out on this gem of a restaurant.

Read moreLunch at this Resturant was nice in the past. The man who bakes the naan bread is wonderful. He smile and welcome making me and my guest fresh bread. The ladies who serve the food are impatient. I visited the Resturant today with my friend who is in a wheelchair. She could not see the selections of food because her wheelchair is too low. She never ate there before. The ladies serving are not handicap friendly workers. two of the ladies had nasty attitudes. I asked them to be patient because my friend is in a wheelchair and has never been here before. They said ok.
I proceeded to order my food. The lady who seemed to be the manager snatched my food from 1 side of the counter and attempted to fix it. I asked her not fix my food because she seem to have an attitude. She allowed the lady who was fixing my food to continue serving.
The lady who served my food said I did not ask for tomatoes, although I did ask for tomatoes. I assume she did not hear me. We started arguing back and forth about if I had asked for tomatoes. I told her it was ok. Just add the tomatoes. She said I will add the tomatoes when your pizza come out of the oven. I said no, please add the tomatoes to cook with the other toppings. She tried to be persistent about adding the tomatoes when the pizza come out of the oven. She harshly grabbed some tomatoes in her right hand and threw the tomatoes at my pizza that was in the oven. I said I don’t want that pizza.
I ordered a samosa dish the samosas were extremely spicy on 1 side and mildly spicy on the other side. The crust was hard. It was obvious that it was thrown together. I threw it in the trash. What an experience. I am surprised about having this experience because in the past I patronized the Resturant with large groups of friends and community residents. During those days the cooks and servers were the owners and the food was delicious. I hope no one else experience such behavior from these workers in the future.
I do not plan to visit with my friends or family in the...
Read moreI was pretty disappointed with the flavors and textures of my takeout order from Spice 6 in Hyattsville. I ordered butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and vegetable korma, with samosa chat, garlic naan, and a mango Lassi. While the food was presented well and was hot on arrival, most of the food did not taste like Indian. The chicken Tikka masala was too thin / soupy (where was the yogurt?) and tasted more like chipotle than masala. Honestly, it tasted more like tex mex than Indian. For a dish I ordered as mild spice level the chicken Tikka masala was also much spicier than I expected. The butter chicken was about the same as the chicken Tikka masala unfortunately. The vegetable korma had a much better, thicker consistency, but the light coconuty flavor tasted more like a poor attempt at Thai curry than what I would expect from korma. While the samosa chat was decent (flavor was pretty good, though the consistency of the filling was too blended / creamy; no peas and chunks of potato), and the naan was good, the flavor and consistency of the lassi was off. The lassi was too thin, and sort of had an aftertaste like whipped cream or vanilla. Spice 6 might be "modern" Indian, but if you are looking for traditional Indian flavors, I'd...
