First & Last time I ever come here. I rode here with my scooter. My scooter was about to die so I was planning on going inside & charging it, something I've done at a few other Public Libraries. I guess I came at a bad time as when I got there, there was another man who had an issue with them beforehand, specifically with his scooter. I don't know what the issue was between this man, his scooter, and the library was. But let's just say that the staff there wasn't too enthused to see another scooter coming into the building. I told them I just needed to charge my scooter. Now I did have some legitimate work to do, but seeing how things were going, I just thought that I could charge my scooter for 10 minutes and head to FIU. The head librarian comes out and threatens me and this other man with calling the police for trespassing and disorderly conduct, saying that it is policy not to have scooters indoors. Given that this had never been an issue at any other Public Library I've been too, I quickly searched it up. Now the policy does state that no "personal transportation vehicles" are allowed inside the premises; however, it does make an exception for foldable/retractable vehicles, like my foldable scooter, as long as they are not a distraction and/or hazard to others & not left unattended and that they must be folded up at all times. I tried to explain that to the head librarian, however the other man that was there was not making the situation any better for either of us. She did in fact call the police. Given my experiences at other Public Libraries, this experience was highly disappointing. The fact that the head librarian blatantly ignored standard policy even after I had searched it up & showed it to her and furthermore was demeaning and insulting both me and the other man during the whole ordeal is saddening. I didn't stay long enough to see the cops, I just left. Overall, an unfortunate experience. Like I said, first & last time here. And to the librarians who work here, I urge you to take a proper look at...
Read moreMy recent visit to this library have left me disappointed. It seems that significant improvements are needed in how this location is managed.
On weekdays, studying here is nearly impossible due to the noise caused by groups of adults treating the space as a social gathering spot rather than a quiet environment for learning.
Today, I brought my kids on a Saturday to return a book and check out new ones, but the children’s area was closed to the public until noon due to a meeting for seniors. While I understand the need for community programs, I was disheartened to see the meeting end and participants remain in the area, socializing loudly, making it hard to enjoy the space with my children.
To add to my frustration, the first book my 5-year-old picked from the children’s section was focused on topics like gender identity and transgender issues material I find inappropriate for his age group. Another book contained phrases such as “You are a sucker” in the context of elections and political parties.
I understand that not all parents share the same views on protecting children from certain topics, but I believe sensitive or mature content should be placed on clearly labeled shelves to allow parents more control over what their children are exposed to.
I hope the library can address these issues to create a more family-friendly and appropriately managed environment...
Read moreIf you want to study in a quiet place THIS IS NOT THE PLACE! staff in the front always is talking load with friends, talking by phone about personal problems. In the short time I was there only (Jan 4 in the afternoon and Thursday 9 and I will never be there again). I knew the history of her life, about how her kids receive therapy, the invitation that she had to a Party after work needing to be dressed in red. Also, some people doing tutoring and giving explanations speaking load as a personal business causing disruption and interruptions to other people reading in silence. Other people talking by phone about personal problems. So, this is not a Library, it’s a place you need to avoid if you want to study, otherwise you will be wasting time of your learning. This is terrible. Personal Tutoring needs to be in a personal and private place not in a...
