Tan A Supermarket is not my ideal place to shop at, but there are too few Asian groceries in the area for me to be picky. The smell, general cleanliness, and attitudes of cashiers/baggers are not so great. Grand Mart beats Tan A in all three categories (unfortunately, Grand Mart does not offer many of the products that I want which I can only find at Tan A). However, these things I can suck up and deal with. The biggest issues for me are that many items are not priced (they put price labels on the shelves and not the items themselves so oftentimes there is one price on a shelf containing multiple products so you don't know which item the price goes to) and that the store-packed products (frozen meats, fried tofu, etc) are neither labeled with a "packaged on date" nor a "sell by date" so you have no clue how long a product has been sitting in the freezer/fridge. On one of my visits, I was in the tofu section of the open-refrigerated shelves, I noticed one section of the fridge was not operating correctly. As I stood in front of the section, I felt no cold air and the tofu sitting in that section were completely warm. The packaging on the tofu is labeled "keep refrigerated" and that entire tofu section was not being refrigerated. I haven't purchased tofu since that visit so maybe it had just broke earlier that day and they were not yet aware. I would hope that section of the refrigerated shelves has since been repaired. I would give two stars, but I bumped it up to three stars, because on my last visit, I ordered from the butcher in the back for the first time. I honestly was nervous as it appeared he didn't speak English and I was worried it was going to be a hassle for him to understand what I wanted. However, he was very patient with me as I pointed at the glass to what I wanted and then to which specific cut of pork belly in the display. This man did not speak a word to me during our interaction, but he did not seem bothered with our language barrier and I really...
Read moreI have been to this grocery store on several occasions. They have great merchandise but the employees, with the exception of the daughter who is the cashier are absolutely horrendous. I have traveled all over the world, lived in Tokyo for 2 years and to five of our seven continents and these people are some of the nastiest and rudest people I have ever encountered in any country or state. The elders are extremely rude especially the mother and the father.. because I'm an African-American I am not going to call them racist but people go there to purchase their merchandise and they have the nerve and the audacity to dismiss you or speak to you in a very curt way when you ask them a question. It is a traumatic experience to walk through that store when the people that you are giving your business to treat you that way. I was standing by a case of water when the mother was helping another customer came by saw me standing there helped the other customer and continued walking and never came back to help me . I do hope that store shuts down because they have been like that for far too long and for too many years. Why would you come to another country and treat the natives who are supporting you that way? They should have stayed in China. I cannot wait until another larger Asian market opens up. I woulbyd suggest that no one ever visits that store. Ever. What goes around comes around. I do not know how they sleep at night. That is how nasty they are and if you don't believe me you go visit them yourself. The customer service is some of the worst I have ever...
Read moreIn the past I had good experiences here, but my last visit was so shockingly terrible. While the woman checking out the man in front of me was warm and kind to him, she was incredibly cold towards me, scanning the items and seemingly throwing them to be bagged? My items came to only $6 or so and before I could even read the sign the woman there spat at me that there was a $10 minimum, which is understandable but her disposition put me off. Even when I said I’d add the items of the people I came with to the total she proceeded to turn and look at her phone ignoring me. This should’ve been a sign to leave but since another employee reiterated what I said I just went ahead and paid so I could leave. Even getting the receipt she dropped it on the counter instead of handing it to me and I had to reach over for it. The food we got, spring rolls, had a fishy scent unlike usual and ended up making us ill, not even worth it. I believe customer service can make or break a shopping experience and I really hope people read this and rethink shopping here if that is how you’ll be treated. There’s other stores and businesses you should...
