Had a fun race at Xtreme Zone with Touring Kart Championship. Really fun indoor track, old-school. Gas karts indoors are a treat. Staff was great.
2024 Dec: went back for a visit. The last corner has been reworked nicely but otherwise same layout. The facility offers a 5 heat pack for 90 bucks which is very reasonable. Sessions were long (for me about 18-20 laps), so a good value. Reasonably busy but not nuts and I got the tack to myself for my final heat, which was nice.
Staff was helpful and the day went well. The facility is set back from the highway in an office park, so it's possible to miss the entrance. There is signage on DuPont highway but it's a bit subtle.
Track/tire heats up nicely as you go along. The interior is well ventilated (indoor gas karts) so it's a bit chilly on track in the winter months, bring a hoodie.
Summer 2025 edit: With many formal races and practice sessions under my belt, I feel like I can give a better review now.
Xtreme Zone is a hidden gem. It is a racers track and challenges us with high speed outer loop feeding into a very technical inside sector. You need to be very efficient and precise with your kart placement to make top of the leaderboards. The surface is grippy, but the turns punish sloppy driving, and figuring out how to maintain momentum and keep your tires from pushing is key.
It races fabulously well, and th karts are beautifully maintained. It has Sodis powered by Honda gx270 9hp engines, as opposed to the more common electric karts you will find indoors these days. The karts are not rev-limited and yes, you can get hurt here if you slam into the wall at 40+ mph.
While it is indoors, it races more like an outdoor layout and competent racers can battle in packs going through the corners. It's wide enough for good racing.
The facility is run by racers like Matt Haas, (the race director) who has a great league going as well as hosting endurance races pretty regularly.
It can get crowded for the public sessions, but it can also be almost empty. Personally I love to go midweek and avoid the crowds. But, I've been plenty of times on weekends and always had fun.
What's cool, is that unlike the corporate facilities, the general public is given the full monty. They are driving at the same power output level as the pros and are given the opportunity to genuinely send it. Definitely not a place for tossing back a few beers and having a bumper car session with the pals (there's no bar either).
They do birthday parties and the like, have axe throwing and video games, but the star is the karting. It's one of the last truly authentic karting experiences around, and is to me, a treasure. It's open year round and is great for keeping skills sharp in the winter doldrums.
It is also a very good value. With membership (cheap annual fee) 5 heats costs 90. These are good length heats unlike the 6 minute heats you get for a higher price at a lot of the fancy indoor places these days.
You do not have to be a racer to have fun here. It's also fun for new drivers. But, if you are the type of driver that looks at the leaderboard and seeks to be at the top of the day/week/month times, you will love it. It's one of the best racing tracks in the NE and the only gas powered indoor facility (I know of) left standing.
It's spiritually similar to GRX, but isn't a select weekends only thing. It's open year round and has the best maintained gas kart fleet around. Come race with us in the endurance races or league! Or just come lap and see if you can get to the top of the LB. The staff is great, the karts are great, the track is great and it's well worth the 1hr drive from central Jersey for me! A+...
Read moreMid-Atlantic Grand Prix leaves much to be desired as far as a karting experience goes. First, there is the track itself: The track is an indoor racetrack situated in an industrial unit. This results in a very slippery floor and a very short track, taking only 30 seconds to complete a lap. The track itself has no fun corners or long straightaways. Just hairpins and 90-degree bends. Due to the track's surface and geometry, crashes and spins are very common. One crash will ruin your entire 8-minute, $20 race (whether you were involved or not). Pricing for non-members is almost double the dollar-per-minute price of some other locations I have visited. Much lower value-for-money for what is a much less enjoyable experience.
That being said, this place has its good bits: Events are quite common and staff are very nice. If there is an accident on the track staff are quick to suspend racing to ensure your safety.
Kids and beginners will love this place. As a first experience in a kart this place will be great! The lower speeds and simple corners (turns) allow them to get to grips with driving with no prior knowledge of the apex, cornering speeds, or braking zones. Be careful if you kid is too young, as a crash could seriously hurt him/her (keep in mind this fact is at no fault to Mid-Atlantic, as they try to avoid instances like a kid's birthday party and a bachelor party together).
The Verdict: Great for kids and beginners, but not avid racers or even with...
Read moreThis place has gone way downhill since it was Mid Atlantic Grand Prix. Went in with my girlfriend for three heats each. Got called for the first heat within 30 min which was fine considering there was a party there. But then waited almost an hour for our second heat, only to be told it would be at least another hour before we got to go out when I went to find out how long it would be.
Furthermore they no longer seem to flag and remove unsafe drivers. I frequented this place when it was Mid Atlantic GP, and they ALWAYS took people off the track who caused accidents. But now they had people dive bombing corners left and right, causing tons of accidents, with more than one person who ended up over a tire wall, people purposefully putting others into walls to prevent passing, and people purposefully hitting you to get you out of the way. They treated it like it was a game of Mario kart. And the track “marshalls” didn’t say a single word, tell anyone to stop, and completely turned a blind eye. Not to mention the condition of the karts was not great.
Mid Atlantic GP used to be a place that took karting pretty seriously, and was always a good time. But this place is not that anymore. It’s a place run and staffed by kids who don’t care in the least, and let poor track etiquette run wild. I will never be back here again, and will find a more serious karting track...
