Our family visited the Whalehead Club on 06/11/2016. The house was absolutely breathtaking, Frank greeted us with open arms and was very friendly.... However we had the unfortunate run in with Sarah, the "host."
After paying for the self guided tour, Sarah showed us where to start first. As we were walking out the door towards the first exhibit, someone in our group had pointed to the iphones they had attached to speakers and said "Wow, how cool." Sarah snapped back and said with a very abrasive offensive tone, "DONT TALK."
One of our family members has dark attributes (dark skin, black hair), and Sarah made sure after telling this family member not to talk, to keep tabs on where she was, even got upset that she did not want to wait on other people to join the group. She singled this family member out and was very abrasive.
The kids had a scavenger hunt they were given by Frank (who was really a sweet gentleman). An older member of our family had said wow cool kids, you found all of the items on the scavenger hunt, and mentioned that it looked like fun and she should of done one too. When Sarah heard her, she snapped at her and said THEY ARE ONLY FOR KIDS and said give me all the pencils back now, there should be three, and she made sure she counted ALL the pencils upon gathering them....
Maybe we just rubbed her the wrong way? I'm not sure why she felt so offended by us. We weren't obnoxious, the children respond with yes ma'am, and say please and thank you. Nobody was loud, touching things or yelling...
My fiance and I heard they did weddings, and thought it would be a good place to check out. After that experience, we will reconsider.
The architecture and scenic views were outstanding. A must see regardless...
Read moreThe tour guide and event manager are some of the most unprofessional people I have ever encountered. Not only did the event planner at this location never returned multiple voicemails or emails, when we arrived at the location looking for help with an event we were trying to plan, the tour guide/volunteer/witch of a woman who “greeted” us was the icing on the cake. We had an unexpected and unfortunate flooding at a prior event space we had booked and was looking to reserve a portion of the park lawn as a last minute solution. We were essentially laughed at, told we needed insurance and “ a lot of other permits that we could never get in time to even consider having the space” plus added “ we need to also pay $750 on top of it”. The money was not the issue, however the day prior NO ONE was in the space and we were looking to use and it would have been for all of an hour. Unprofessional is an understatement. To the rude woman who I experienced this with,...
Read moreWhalehead Club was our dream wedding venue. We hosted an 180 person outdoor wedding in May 2024 and we had the time of our lives! We got really lucky with good weather, had our ceremony on the Point outdoors, a perfect cocktail hour under the trees off the west porch of the building, and a massive dinner and dancing reception under a huge tent on the North Lawn with Corolla Light in the background. Whalehead was super accommodating and responsive throughout the entire process - big shout out to Samantha Payne and Chris Hooper! They made sure we had all the permits we needed and were so helpful as we worked to organize our various on site vendors for the big day. We had a few folks who required special care and transport and Chris and the golf cart were a wonderful addition to the day. We cannot wait to come back and renew our vows here someday or just visit and take...
