I'm always curious to read the reviews of other folks, esp when there is such a disparity in stars! In any case, we had a great time. My husband, myself and our Lab mix popped by after a day at the local beach. We drove up from Kitty Hawk just to see a new place in OBX. The hostess was very kind and helped us get a shady spot outside for our pooch, and we only waited a few min. We did NOT sit inside and so have no idea what the inside atmosphere is like. Our server was such a gentleman and so attentive. The frozen lime marg was perfect and my husband LOVED the skinny marg with jalapenos!!! It had a true jalapeno flavor with the heat, too. I got the crabcake dinner and it was amazing. Slaw has cilantro in it which we LOVE. We even got two cocktails to go so we could walk to see the sunset! I also have to shout out the other server working that day - a family had two tables, one of adults and a separate one that was their kids of varying ages. The older kids were doing a good job with the younger ones but it was still organized chaos! The server was patient and seemed to anticipate their needs. Hope they tipped well because she went above and beyond.

Let me start by saying this is a cozy spot. It's convenient to Corolla Inn and surrounded by other restaurants. We were greeted on entry and seated. I thought of leaving as they had just cleaned the table but the smell from the rag was sour. There were flies and I said nope we should leave. We decided to stay. I ordered chicken tacos from the kids menu which was just chopped chicken in flour tortillas. The chicken was well seasoned with not taco seasoning, the jerk sandwich was laughable. I had the tuna steak bowl with jasmine rice, salsa and guacamole. The rice was not jasmine rice, the guacamole was not edible, the salsa was really watery. The chips were also not edible. I had a virgin Pina colada that was not a Pina or colada. Just a coconut slushie and barely. I give 3 stars for the customer service. Update: 7/29/22: I removed a star for the "owner's response below. I came to eat NOT to have fun. How this place has 4.1 stars is beyond me.

This is a great place to stop prior to or coming off the 4x4 beach. We had a very uncomfortable situation yesterday where we were great and sat by a very nice host. I must say service there has always been great. However when the host sat us the bartender makes a snarky comment load enough to the host that she isn’t taking tables. That comment made us feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome at this point. This kind of attitude behind the bar is unacceptable and makes me angry after I always recommend this place and this is how you treat folks coming in. The ironic point was behind her was a sign saying to “bee happy”. She should have taken some of that advice. Other than that food was great and our server was nice and you could tell she felt bad about the situation.

In Response to the Owner: You know what you’re right for once owner of the Corolla Cantina I should call my parents because Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream. But you still only get a 1 Star review because Ive had a better dining experience at Home Depot, accidentally inhaling sawdust. I was up until recently rather enthusiastic about visiting this establishment but quite frankly after hearing how the staff and owner treat their guests I have second thoughts. I will be giving my business to someone who values their customers instead of making excuses right to their face and calling them out when they leave reviews detailing their experiences. The owner might want to examine their version of customer service.

If White Castle and Golden Corral got together for a one night stand and had a kid it would without hesitation be named Corolla Cantina. Someone call Gordon Ramsay and may God save the Queen!

Sincerely,

Dirty Mike...

On our recent trip to the Outer Banks, we stopped at Corolla Cantina for lunch.

The wait staff was very good, we had someone greet us outside when we walked up and they took us directly to a table. The waiter checked with us several times to make sure that we were doing alright and to refill our drinks, so I was pleased with that.

The food, being absolutely honest, was not very good. We got the Just in Queso and added seasoned chicken. The fries were pretty salty (which I didn't mind, but my Special Ladyfriend was not a fan of) and the chicken seemed pretty dried out. The queso was pretty good though.

I got the fish n chips and she got the cantina crabcake dinner. The fish was not terribly memorable and it had more salty fries. The slaw that came with it was pretty tasteless. I had one of her crabcakes and while it was pretty meaty, it was also pretty unflavorful.

All things considered, it wasn't terrible, but good service for not good food is not enough to bring us back for our next trip to the...
