Pretty average place that tries to be fancier than it really is. Family of 5, two kids. We made our reservation easy and were seated promptly. The table however was really wobbly and not from the base but from the top to post connection which made it really hard to keep steady. Something you expect to find at a cheap casual place, there were no other tables. Just shows no one cares to fix this as it’s clearly evident if you put light pressure on the top.
Next the silverware, it’s the cheapest middle school stamped silverware. You can get better silverware at Walmart.
We started with the meatballs. You get two small ones in a bowl of sauce. Meatballs were tender and good, but for the price, two is just sad.
I ordered the rigatoni. It came out at best room temperature. They took it back, microwaved it, and returned it at a better temp. No mid to upscale restaurant would ever nuke your food and return it like this. The sauce was good, nice spice level and the pasta was cooked al dente. But for $26 and no protein, that’s a lot for a bowl of simple pasta.
My wife had the chicken parm. She enjoyed it. The portion looked nice and she enjoyed the way it was cooked. The arugula on top was nice.
My son had the burger, it was overcooked and really basic. Almost looked like a frozen patty. A burger isn’t hard to make really well. Again, a nicer restaurant can do a good burger for $16, this place doesn’t. My little ones had spaghetti and meatballs and chicken tenders. No complaints here, both good portions and the fries are very tasty.
The service was ok. Our main server was nice, but others who brought our food looked very annoyed as they yelled out our orders (another thing nicer restaurants don’t do at all). We asked one for water, she just looked at me, didn’t say a word then our server brought water later.
All in all it’s simply not worth what they charge and what they try and portray themselves as. For an OBX sit down restaurant it’s ok if you are comfortable with the prices, I’d say 3.5, compared to restaurants in metropolitan areas like Raleigh, Charlotte, DC, NOVA…it’s maybe a 2.5.
This place has potential, I think if they made it more casual, provided better value for food, and improved their service it...
Read moreMy friend and I were interested in coming based off the pictures alone. We arrived and the atmosphere was small but intimate and cute for a brunch spot. The service was great, the drinks were really good but the food just fell short. I don't normally order avocado toast at restaurants but I was kind of excited to have an heirloom tomato and just something light for the day. My friend ordered the crabcake benedict and everything looked appetizing...but it all just fell so short. It was just so very bland. It seemed as if the components were assembled with no seasoning added along the way, prompting me to add salt to my dish, but that couldn't even elevate the flavor. It was just a LOT of arugula, unseasoned avocado, multiple, bothersome, cherry tomatoes unlike the heirloom I was expecting and the egg was over hard instead of over easy. I was kind of disappointed and had thought that if my seemingly simple avocado toast could be this bland, then I was worried that my friends crab cake Benedict would be no better...which was true. The crabcake had absolutely no flavor as well, the egg was over hard and there was barely any hollandaise sauce to maybe amalgamate each ingredient. Everything looked beautiful, and I was eyeing the big party towards the bar and the couple right next to us, thinking that maybe we just ordered the wrong thing since everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals too, but it wasn't for me. I think it would do good to add seasoning along the way, especially since the arugula was a bit much too - but honestly the bigger disappointment was that there were cherry tomatoes and not heirloom which is kind of an elitist comment to make but I was really looking forward to it. Again, everything from the atmosphere, drinks, and service was great, just...
Read moreSeanna Tavern delivered, hands down, the best breakfast experience of our island vacation. It truly felt like an elevated option compared to others we tried, showcasing quality and thoughtful preparation.
While they were unfortunately out of bacon and the specific liquor for their "signature" spritz during our visit, these minor hiccups were easily overshadowed by the deliciousness that followed. The Bellini (as seen in the image - a perfectly decadent drink) was absolutely divine and a wonderful start to the meal.
As expected with an Italian restaurant, gluten-free options were limited. However, what they did offer was fantastic. I had a side of scrambled eggs and sausage patties (due to the bacon being out). The scrambled eggs were a dream—light, fluffy, and perfectly cooked. The sausage patties were a standout, cooked like a "smash burger" with wonderfully sizzling edges and a tender, juicy inside.
My husband declared his biscuits and gravy the best he's ever had. He raved about the light, fluffy, homemade-tasting biscuit paired with perfectly spiced sausage gravy that was notably neither gelatinous nor floury. The only minor letdown for him, aside from the initial unavailability of some items, was the breakfast potatoes, which he felt tasted like generic frozen potatoes, "nothing special."
The restaurant itself is small but boasts a contemporary Italian feel, creating a sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. Most importantly, the staff was attentive and consistently polite, adding to the overall positive experience.
Despite a couple of minor supply issues, Seanna Tavern impressed us immensely with its wonderful food, exquisite drinks (hello, Bellini!), and excellent staff. It's a definite must-visit for a top-tier breakfast...
