I'd give it 6 stars if it were an option. Picking up a whole feast from Corolla Village BBQ and polishing off everything is one of my favorite things to do on our annual beach vacation.
It's kind of hard to find: it's nestled next to the Corolla historical schoolhouse, the town library, and a nice independently owned bookstore. Yet it is definitely worth the hard work finding it. At first glance, you may be a little bit let down, so I want to manage your expectations for its appearance: It's a shack from which you buy containers of beans, slaw, corn bread, pulled pork and of course ribs from. There are a few picnic tables outside on the gravel parking lot. But as they say, what matters the most is what's inside. And what you are going to find inside is some of the best tasting food you'll have: ribs that fall off the bone, pulled pork, moist corn bread, and even the beans and slaw.
Let me not oversell you lest you be disappointed. Make the drive and give it a try: you will (most likely, unless you have super discerning taste buds on the Princess and the Pea level) be delighted.
Do not trust the listing closing hour - they make a certain amount of meat every day and once it's gone, it is gone. Learn from my sad story, do not wait until 5 minutes before their...
Read moreIf the staff wasn't so nice I would have given them one star. We came here at around 12:30 PM on the 16 of July 2018 after visiting the light house. After placing our order it took almost 30 minutes to get us our food. This is extremely long considering there was only one other customer in front of us. Strangely the guy after us received his food ten minutes before we did. The BBQ was some of the most mediocre BBQ I've had in NC or OBX. The chicken was super dry and the pork was OK at best. I did like the vinegar based sauce, but the others were awful. I didn't mind the baked beans though it was odd the have butter beans in them. There are to many better BBQ places on the outer banks to waste your time here. Go to the juice place and get a smoothie or bring snacks to hold you over until you can get some...
Read moreThis is BBQ....plain and simple. The Corolla Village BBQ sits in historic Corolla village, which is worth the tour - neat buildings and shops. The food was excellent, just the right amount of smoke to enhance the meat. My kids, who can be picky eaters, tore through their BBQ chicken like they hadn't ate in weeks. The pulled pork is nicely done, and pairs well with their vinegar BBQ sauce. The sides were great as well, especially the baked beans. The ambiance is what it is, a little BBQ joint tucked in the woods of a historic town on the Outer Banks, so don't let the fly's bother you. The staff was even nice enough to provide my kids with a piece of their cornbread (excellent) to feed local chickens wandering on the property. This will be a can't miss stop on our...
