The library itself is beautiful but the lady who works behind the desk in Children’s area is very racist! Have had two experiences with her in which she had an attitude giving us the prizes for the summer reading back in late July. And two, seemed like a snob telling a two year old to not run when I was after her getting her to stop. She wasn’t running the whole time we were there just as I was telling them that we were going to leave. I was also told that a child can’t get a library card until the age of 6 which we never heard of before! I called the library and nearby libraries and was told as long as the child can write their name. One library even told me that there really isn’t a set age as long as I can prove residency! I’ve had my older kids get cards at ages 4 & 5 so I know she was lying or being lazy to not help us! Their website doesn’t even state this! Besides that woman, everyone else is nice! But it’s encounters like these that make me not want to spend time there! I will look to going to St. Francis and South Milwaukee libraries...
Read moreNot sure what Amber is ranting about , maybe she's mad for a late fee...lol but I always had a great experience here. I belong to both the Cudahy and Racine library and I am impressed with the knowledge of the staff and how helpful they are. Some of the staff is older but they all know that library by the back of their hand and if they can't find something they suggest something else if needed while you wait for your book , movie, or cd to come in. I think the problem with some people's perception on how to run things is instant me first and hurry up lifestyle, (thank you overused technology) , and patience is out the door. When you go to the library it's an experience and you just need to let life happen without rushing it sometimes. Thank you again for having excellent staff, being able to get my orders in and notifying me. Finally, I would like to add that the staff always seems to remember you after a while and you get some lucky suggestions that you might not even of thought of checking...
Read moreI haven't been here in so long, nearly 14 years. The difference is amazing. They improved everything about it but kept the warm family feel. They have so many add ins. Such as the many artworks displayed, plants, huge study rooms, and classes galore. A nice used bookstore with knick knacks and so many fun classes and unique events. Like they have someone who wrote a book about manipulation coming in. To tell u all the things to look for. I might take it. Lol. They have piano players come in and perform. Not to mention all the windows with comfy seats. Omg I can totally see myself, drinking tea, bathing in light, and lost in a book on a peaceful day. They also have a perfect outside seating arrangement where your kids can run around and u can relax. There are also spaces for people craving reflection. It's a beautiful library. I talked to one of the patrons, and she said she is here a lot and that it's the best library in th city. I wouldn't go that far, but I would say it's high...
