This used to be a premier facility and I am in the industry so we chose to put my dad there for skilled rehab as it was physically located very close to his home and where my mother was staying. What a mistake! Call buttons were never answered. The night nurse told him that when he pressed the call button he was on break. My dad was in severe pain and needed a pain pill. No one is on break for two whole hours! My father complained that the staff was extremely rough with him, rude and unprofessional. He went there with some red skin at the base of his spine and left with a humongous open bedsore that is potentially life-threatening. Rehab is extremely inconsistent and many days did not show up at all. The doctor kept wanting to send him for all of these tests that were unrelated to the reason he was there and they tried to keep him in just to rent out his entire Medicare skilled nursing benefit when we had already arranged for him to go to assisted-living the 24 hour care. We were constantly having to cancel and necessary testing and interventions that we had stated we did not want. They’re just trying to pad the bill. Dinner time and lunchtime and breakfast time was never delivered within the time window they said as a matter of fact it would vary by hours, literal hours. Because my dad needs assistance eating we would always have a family member there for every meal but it was impossible and we would have to cancel our workdays just to be there to ensure that he got something to eat and that he was safe. This should have been their job but it got to the point that we decided that the service was so bad that someone from the family had to be with him as often as possible. Should not be that way in skilled nursing. Now we are struggling trying to get necessary records in order for us to turn into his long-term care insurance so that we can get reimbursed. Getting in touch with medical records is impossible. Kristin will never call anybody back. We literally have to drive an hour from our homes to go to the facility to track her down in the hallway. I can go on and on but the final word is that I would not recommend the skilled nursing...
Read moreGiven the experience my Mother recently had with the Plaza at Edgemere, I'm sure they must be the best in-patient skilled nursing/rehab facility in DFW. In between and immediately after my mom's two recent hospital stays, we tried two other facilities in the same vicinity, and the Edgemere's elegant environment, caring and cheerful staff, great food, and conscientious service provided by each and every person we encountered there was excellent and at a level that far exceeded the other two facilities, which were also supposed to be good service providers, but couldn't compare to the Edgemere.
The day after my mom was admitted, they arranged a group meeting with the directors of each of the departments serving her, including the food service, physical therapy, nursing, activities, and social worker. They could not have been more attentive and tuned in to my mom's specific needs and preferences. Also, when we first arrived in her room, the nurse and nurses assistant on duty welcomed us in her room and immediately got the details they needed in order to provide her the best care. In comparison, at the facility she left in order to move to the Edgemere, when my mom got to her room, no one acknowledged she was there and I had to go hunt down the staff to bring her to their attention.
The Edgmere experience was like night and day compared to our experience at either of the previous two facilities. The activities were most appealing at the Edgemere, the food was the best, and my mom loved her therapists and all of her caretakers. She expects the best, so her feelings about the staff say a lot about the quality of service they provide. To put it in my mom's own words, when asked about her stay at the Edgemere, she said, "It's...
Read moreBy way of background, I home cared for my loved one for 5 years. Eighteen months ago, after an extensive search in Virginia (home at the time) and Dallas, I selected Edgemere memory care. This was who I placed my trust and confidence in.
Evaluating levels of care in any care facility is an imprecise art and science. Early in my evaluation I was fortunate to meet the Director of Assisted Living and Memory Care at The Plaza, at Edgemere. Lucinda Gray is the absolute best that there is; bar none. I have interacted extensively with Lucinda for nearly 2 years now. A veteran of decades in caregiving to the elderly, she is an expert in the ways and needs of the residents and love ones. Her world is a constancy of dealing with marginalized elderly people and with love ones that have a wide array of questions and needs. She is an absolute genius in filling these needs. Patient, calming, understanding while being honest candid and direct.
An organization is only as good or great as its leader. I feel so very fortunate to have Lucinda as the leader of the memory care that I have entrusted with the care of my love one.
Lucinda is both an Angel...
