My mom & I really bonded while she gifted me a nearly official, legitimately professional wildlife Preserve guided tour! She first noticed, quickly pointed out, and knew the precise names of every single bird surrounding us! We even caught a gorgeous white & brown marbled Osprey literally floating hunting for dinner! AND it flew directly above us, TWICE!-literally hovering for what felt like too long directly above our heads! Maybe tryying to figure out if it could try to eat us!?! However, instead, my mom loudly whispered: "Pull out your phone to take its picture!!" And I did! Right as it was frozen right above our heads! ...the 2nd time! 2nd times the charm here at Dana Point's unknown gem..shhh... Don't tell too many people because this is a Preserve afterall. We pretty much never take pictures of ourselves/together but we did here because we definitely wanted to remember our time here, forever ❤️ 💞💗

The CNLM Dana Point Preserve Trail offers a truly relaxing experience, perfect for a leisurely walk. The trail's scenic beauty, coupled with stunning views of the ocean, creates an ideal backdrop for a peaceful outing. As you stroll, the gentle ocean breeze enhances the experience, making it a refreshing escape from the hustle and bustle. It's essential to always stay on the trail to preserve the natural habitat and ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for everyone. While the trail is great for walking, it's not suited for jogging. Whether you're looking to clear your mind or simply take in the beautiful surroundings, this trail is a delightful escape.

The trailhead gate is located at the end of the street. The gate remains closed but is unlocked during regular hours. Parking is allowed on the street, except on Thursdays from 10 AM to noon due to street cleaning. Additional parking is available at the interpretive center, which also has another entrance. The trail does not loop.

A spectacular 2.7 mi walk or run. Views into the infinite blue. Listen for the sea lions. Watch the pelicans catching the thermals. If walking, take your time and pause to see, hear and smell the beauty.

Advice to newbies: 🔹Wear proper footwear. Sneakers/light weight trail shoes are best. Some places can have churned sand.

🔹No flip flops, high heels or hotel slippers. This is off-road terrain, although not difficult. There are small animals, and occasional snakes and tarantula. Beware.

🔹Share the trail. Be Aware of other people. Yield when necessary. Don't talk loudly with other people or on your phone. That's not why you're there.

🔹DO NOT climb over or through the fence. This is a highly protected and precious environment. It is also about 200 ft. above sea level. The edge is sand and brittle sand stone. It is very dangerous at the edge.

🔹The trail gates automatically lock at sunset. Don't get caught in the dark and have to call to be let out. If you don't have a phone you'll have an uncomfortable night.

Have a spectacular...
