We arrived later and we called and had to reserve online.
We were on our way home and was tired so this was open . When we got here a few RV were already here. It was pretty much open space but the spaces were pretty crowded together. I would not have cared for it if it was packed.
It is a 4H ground so keeping that in mind I don’t expect resort quality. We did not use the bathhouse, laundry, or showers. The grounds were nicely kept and maintained and clean. We did have full Hookups.
It was a pull over and sleep as it was a half way point to home. The grounds did the job and we felt safe.
We stayed hooked up and didn’t even have to unhook! It was spot on for a level ground! No Blocks needed . We had Spot 6. Was not sure of the spot as it was kinda confusing, At least we hope we parked in the right spot 😂 Easy access in and out. It is all gravel spots.
There are hills for walking and grass spots for the dog to go. We did hear a train but otherwise it was super quiet.
We would stay here again for a quick overnight stop. Would not recommend it for more than a couple days unless it’s for an event on the grounds. The staff was amazing on the phone and was super helpful. Super sweet!
Gave it a 4 because of the great customer service we received and that the grounds were cleaned, leveled and well maintained. Not all had picnic tables and fire pits. It is not a KOA nor a resort high quality place. I didn’t expect much more but I was pleasantly surprised on how level the parking was. This is a plain Jane basic campground that fits basic needs. Pet friendly and plenty of places to walk the dog.
We called other places and they were all full. We were happy we found something . We had US cellular and...
Read moreThis is a campground review.... We made our reservation for a very specific site due to proximity to the bathroom and the view. Within a couple weeks of arriving, our reservation changed twice - with little real explanation, other than they had to make way for longer term campers (we were staying 6 nights however). We were told though that we were still "close to the bathroom" and "could still see the lake". We were shoved into the smallest site at the place (and pretty far from the bathrooms - important if you rig does not have sewer) - however, we were told that when folks are put into our site, they NEVER put anyone in the adjacent site since its so small. Turned out not to be true, so we had beautiful views of the the next RV 4 feet away from our window. In addition, many overnight campers came and went while we were there and they had better sites than we did, so I just could not understand why we got placed into that very undesirable site. That being said, the Vanderburg 4H center has nice grounds and its great for walking. BUT, the train tracks and numerous crossings (2/10 of a mile away) made for some loud nights as trains come through there 4-5 times each night. We arrived on a Thursday and left on the following Wednesday. The bathrooms were cleaned once during that time. Would I stay here again? Maybe is the answer - but definitely NOT anywhere close to the site where we...
Read moreThe official north side dog park, jogging track, learning-how-to-drive course, train watching-couple walking-bike riding....all rolled into one. I love walking a lap on Sunday afternoons here, great way to wrap up a weekend.
I've come here for the 4H Fair and Frog Follies of course but also guns shows, antique shows, Halloween shows, wedding receptions, WWII displays, old tractors, and my all time favorite...the annual Christmas lights and Santa Castle.
Speaking of WWII, these grounds played a part in Evansville's Arsenal of Democracy effort. If you walk toward the back of the ground you'll notice concrete "pyramids"...these were ammo bunkers storing locally produced ammo before shipment via rail to both coasts. Nearby warehouse storage served as a transfer point to the rail cars. The reinforced concrete walls scattered about at odd angles mark the spot where loaded ammo box cars were parked. These walls were blast shields designed to redirect potential explosions away from bunkers and warehouses. In your mind's eye you can picture a bustling ammunition holding area.
This is private property open to the public and everyone has been respectful of their rules.
If you have a spare afternoon come on down and...
