Convenience factor, the government bridge helps with my daily commutes, MOST days. Let me emphasize MOST. On the days it hinders my commutes, the government bridge sucks a bunch. For that reason, it gets 4 stars for helpfulness most days, and a one star deduction for being a giant pain in my a$$ the other days. Read moreI've lived in the Quad Cities for a LONG time and the Government bridge has never failed! Driving from Davenport to Rock Island or from Rock Island to Davenport, it's a smooth crossing. Caution, though, as sometimes the swing span is turned to allow barges through the locks. If the span is turned, you need some extra speed to jump the gap! There's also a bike and pedestrian path on the side of the bridge. I do NOT recommend trying to jump on foot or bicycle while the span is turned.
