Transferred in from a very small college, so I'm not sure what I was expecting. When registration for fall classes opened, I was unable to register. After trying for an entire week to get someone to help me, I was told that my previous transcripts had not been evaluated and I couldn't sign up until they were. However, I was also told that my transcripts would not be evaluated until the first week of classes. This made no sense. Online advising appointments are a joke. I was told to come in to the advising office so they could help me, but I lived 1500 miles away at the time. As a veteran, the VA pays my tuition. The VA reps at my camous (Central Campus) were unhelpful. They never answered their phone or returned messages. When I couldn't get any help from them, I tried contacting the North and South campuses and got the same thing - no response from anyone. It took 5 trips between their office and the advising office to finally get my classes and tuition squared away. I was told I needed more classes than necessary. They do not know how to properly evaluate classes from previous schools. I had to go to the advisor twice to explain what my classes were and what they transferred to at Broward. An example: I took Principles of Management at my previous school, and they didn't apply it to the "Introduction to Management" until I physically went to an advisor.
When I spoke to an advisor about transferring to FAU after I completed my Associate's requirements, I was told that I would need an A.A. from Broward. However, Broward only offers an A.S. in Hospitality. The advisor told me I would have to complete an additional semester in order to meet the requirements for FAU. Broward works a lot with other schools to help students transfer, so why would they give people the wrong degree (A.S. vs A.A.)? They just want more money from the students.
Besides the administration, the classes are a joke. I had to take a 2nd English class (I had taken one at my other school). The class was scheduled from 630-915pm once a week, but the class was only ever 30 minutes long. By the middle of the semester, the teacher said we didn't even need to come to class as long as we were turning in homework online. It was a waste, and a joke.
Also, they force you to take a science class with a lab, which takes up time that could be spent on degree-specific classes. I am a Hospitality major, and I have to take a Biology class and lab just to fulfill a requirement. It doesn't make any sense. The only thing I'm getting out of the class is a lower GPA.
NEVER GO TO THE ADVISING OFFICE WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT UNLESS YOU HAVE ALL DAY TO WAIT!!!
The ONLY thing good about this school is that they offer classes at many different times of the day, and they offer blended, 8-week courses. It makes it easy to get more classes...
Read more0 stars if I could. This school is ridiculous. Countless times, I have been screwed over by the staff, putting me in a corner for failure. At this point, it feels severely predatory. Last year, I have missed a whole entire year of attending Broward College due to someone's mistake of not submitting my form properly after their own mistake of forcing me to pay for courses I didn't register for. I had evidence of documents and emails, and they kept pressuring me to pay as if it were my mistake. It wasn't until I had a severe mental breakdown in the office that I was given a chance to be withdrawn with a refund. I was on top of them every week on the status of my refund form. Apparently, it was completed, and despite me pressing on the issue, it was completed over half a year ago from that point, meaning I was constantly LIED to and BRUSHED OFF REPEATEDLY They made me waste so much time off.
Now, this year, I've had another issue happen. I paid for a course, and it was marked as unpaid due to the mistake of a cashier in the cashier's office. Since August 24, I've been trying to get reinstated into my session 3 DEP2002 course. The course ends October 4. As of now, today is September 25. I've been on top of these people constantly messaging the cashier's office, student accounts, ombudsman office, my professor, etc. Only when I submitted an email to have me MOVED to a session 4 course or put the money towards NEXT SEMESTER. Am I FINALLY acknowledged but REINSTATED into the class when there's only a WEEK left. I can not withdraw, and I am forced to receive an F for something out of my control. As of now, I am still fighting. This is a disgusting and predatory practice. This can qualify for negligence.
Please do not attend this place as even if you provide documentation and you are in the right, they WILL try to screw you over. I self advocate regularly, and I'm on top of the issue constantly, yet I am mistreated severely. 0/10. Disgusting school.
Do not ignore the 1-star reviews as they are absolutely correct. They will make you run around, and despite doing everything in your power, nothing will be done. Shame how this is still happening even so...
Read moreI wish I could give this college less than 1 start. Attending BC was like a dream to me when I graduated in 2016. Since the moment I walked in to register for classes they made it very hard for me to get in college classes. They told me that I had to take EAP classes because my high school diploma was not good and it required me to take those courses before taking any courses related to the career I want, I saw it as something beneficial for myself so I decided to take them. Now that I’m ready for college classes the two advisors that I saw in December last year placed me in the wrong degree type, because of that my financial aid got frozen and I have to pay for my classes, went over there 5 times already and spoke to all the senior advisors and no one has been able to help me. I tried to at least pay for two of the classes I wanted to take but wasn’t able to do it because they are charging me for a class that I register for in the spring term but never attended, financial aid paid for that class and now they are charging me for it too. Long-short story I went back a few days ago to see if it’s possible to register for the summer since it’s been 4 months already and no one has been able to do anything to me, the lady from financial aid told me everything was fine to register for the summer but when I went online to pick my classes there is a hold because they need to check my immigration status, I went to the admission office to check what was going on and the lady in the front called me an Immigrant even though I showed her my asylum documents which was granted to me in 2015 my drivers license expires in 2024 because I’m a permanent resident, she told me that asylums expires and I have to show her my green car which I don’t have because I just started the process to register my permanent residence so the immigration office needs to send it to me once all the process it’s done. I’ve been so depressed and frustrated this past week I don’t know what else to do so the best option will be to transfer to another college and sue them for their...
