This particular El Portal Maya is a secondary location to the original one on Johnson street in Hollywood. Perhaps because of this, this location on Davie road is A LOT slower than the original when preparing and serving your food. I timed it, and from placing our order to finally getting our food to our table, it took around 50 minutes. If you're in good company this perhaps isn't a big deal but otherwise you'll be waiting for a while. Sadly this is also par for the course when ordering takeout, they told me to show up in 30 minutes and I had to wait a full thirty more for my food to be ready. Why did I wait so long, you ask? Because the food is outstanding. Super tasty and 100% authentic Honduran treats that'll make you forget how long you had to wait. They have an assortment of Honduran soda drinks, banana, grape, strawberry and also horchata as well as other natural juices. Their desserts consist of the usual flan and Tres leches and are as tasty as these old standards usually are. Overall the food is fantastic, the service by the staff tends to be too non chalant for my taste, no urgency whatsoever, which is why I only...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at Portal Maya
I recently visited Portal Maya, and while the place itself is visually appealing, the experience was far from enjoyable. From the moment we walked in, we weren’t even greeted, which set the tone for the rest of the visit.
The service was incredibly poor. Our waitress seemed uninterested, visibly sweeping and mopping around us while we were seated—something that felt unprofessional and made us uncomfortable. On top of that, the dust in the place was unbearable.
We had to ask multiple times for plates, and when they finally brought them, they were wet, which is unacceptable. As for the food, it didn’t live up to any expectations—it simply wasn’t good.
Overall, the combination of bad service, poor hygiene, and subpar food made this visit a complete disappointment. I wouldn’t recommend Portal Maya if you’re looking for a pleasant...
Read moreMy husband and I tried the churrasco last night and we were so disappointed! The steak is not the cut that churrasco requires, to be honest we are not 100% sure if that was even meat from a cow, the color, taste and consistency was way too weird, it was chewy not like steak at all. It looked like they barely put some Chimichurri on it but they dont give you extra, the rice was bathed in oil, thats all I could taste. The sweet plantains were ok but a bit too mushy in my opinion, the fried yuca looked very greasy and I only ate a little bit of the meal because it was that bad. At the end I had to drink something with a lot of flavor to wash away the after taste of the meat. Im horrified thinking that I might have eaten meat from an...
