The Deming Luna Mimbres Museum is a true treasure for anyone who appreciates the history and culture of the American Southwest 🏜️. Located in the heart of Deming, this museum offers a deep dive into the region’s past — from the ancient cultures of Native peoples, including the Mimbres, to life on the frontier during colonial times and up through the 1970s 🏛️. A special highlight is the exhibit dedicated to Fort Cody — a key stronghold and protection for settlers during the harsh times of taming these lands ⚔️.

Inside, you’ll find unique artifacts ranging from tools and clothing to photographs that tell stories of everyday life from those years 📸. Each exhibit seems to come alive, sharing tales of the resilience and endurance of the people who built their lives on the frontier, overcoming hardships and creating a lasting legacy 🛖.

The collection covers a wide array of topics: archaeology, ethnography, early settlement history, and daily life, making the museum a truly vibrant and educational place for anyone wanting to grasp the spirit and character of this corner of America 🇺🇸. The attention to detail in preserving and presenting history is impressive, allowing visitors to literally touch the past ✨.

For history lovers wanting to feel the atmosphere of the true Old West, this museum is a real gem 🌵. I highly recommend it to anyone interested not only in major historical events but also in the everyday lives of those who left their mark on...

All the good reviews you read online about the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum located in Deming New Mexico are all true. First, Deming is a small town with a population of about 15,000. Second, it is located away from big cities and surrounded by flat lands and mountains from far distance. These two alone made me question how such a town can have a museum that houses many artifacts and art pieces, all well put together. Astounded, I was. Who would have thought that a little town in New Mexico called Deming would have such an interesting museum?

No question, this was the best museum of any small town I have been to. The selection of exhibits varies from old photos, to furniture, to WWII memorabilia, to musical instruments, to classic vehicles, to dolls and toys, to stunning rocks, minerals, and geodes. One room after another, every space filled to the brim with pieces of history.

The photos below don’t even describe the completeness of the museum. You have to be there to appreciate...

This is a museum worthy of your time. I stop whenever I am in Deming, and on my most recent visit, I admit, was overwhelmed by some of the history in this museum. From notes and articles about the Bataan Death March, to a collection of liquor bottles that numbers probably over a thousand. The Geode collection is extensive. The history of shops and the equipment from long ago is incredible. Wait till you see the old hair salon! The sets of photos of all the locals and their generations is wonderful. This time I found a photographic collection of The Faces of Deming, that was inspiring indeed! There is so much going on, yet it is large and spacious. The upstairs is due to be back online in Nov 2012, and that brings another layer to this museum! Top it off it is free. (you can donate all you want) The volunteers that put this together have a passion that needs to be bottled and sprayed on people...

What a surprise. Once inside you are transported to the everyday life of the past. I was told the museum was a culmination of an entire block. Indeed , you walk through a maze of rooms like small homes each vignettes of various facets of 1880-1920 approximately. Some rare and unique items from tiny fossils to fire trucks. Something for everyone: delicate china ware, military memorabilia and tons of geodes. Fellow steampunkers you will love this place. Hint: an old hearse and contraptions. Not a place for children unless they just enjoy looking and reading. Don't take toddlers: there are realistic and delicate settings. Hint: a fully set dining table. Get to know what New Mexico life was like approximately a hundred years ago. Plan on a couple hours to really appreciate this. BEST: IT'S FREE! HOWEVER PLEASE DONATE. This is not a wealthy community. Here's a teaser photo, looks like it should be in a Jules Verne movie.

This museum is an absolute gem! My dad and I were on our way back to Phoenix from New Mexico and I looked up "Military museums" since my dad is a huge fan of all things military. This museum popped up in my search and since it was so highly rated and was right off the I-10, there was no reason not to stop by (plus, it's free!). And we were so happy we did. We were both so impressed by the building, the exhibits that cover a vast array of subjects, the impeccably kept facility, and the super friendly and helpful staff. This museum is so unassuming from the outside, then when you go in and start to walk the building and the exhibits just go on and on! I highly recommend the Deming Luna Mimbres Museum! You could really spend hours in there!
