The Gulch is a great place to walk, bike, commute, adventure, meet neighbors, and play on the playgrounds or the disc golf course. There are plenty of trash cans, which makes it convenient if you're walking your dog. The sidewalks also provide good connectivity between Villa Park and the West Colfax neighborhoods, though some areas could use some stairs where dirt trails have been made through use. There are also challenges with keeping it clean, as there are regularly homeless camps that pass through and broken glass on the sidewalks. The city does go through and help clean them up fairly regularly.

The bike and pedestrian trail is a great way to get through this part of the city without much interaction with vehicular traffic. The sections of the trail are well marked and it connects with other trail systems, including the Platte River Trail on the Eastern end. There are several RTD light rail stations along the route. A disc golf course is along the parallel park. There is room for improvement, with perhaps better maintenance and expanded facilities, but is in general a great example of how a corridor centered on a trail should be implemented in an urban area.

There is a small playground at the intersection of two trails and gulches. Lakewood Gulch Trail in general is quiet and easy to navigate. I started my run from Confluence Park and ended with a loop around Sloan's Lake, by way of Lakewood Gulch trail. It's a nice and chill10 miler. Several light rail stations along the trail makes it even more accessible. Not a sight or attraction itself but definitely a good connector between downtown area and the East side of the city.

This disc golf park would see much improvement with only a few changes. First, the tall grasses make it difficult to find a disc, even with a good throw in the middle of the fairway. Two to three feet tall grasses are a hassle to walk through. Secondly, there is quiet a problem with the homeless population. I saw many "campsites" strewn with garbage in less than discrete locations. The tee pad for hole 17 was completely covered with belongings and a couple shopping carts. I encountered mild harassment from one homeless man when I refused to let him throw one of my discs. The other five or so men were friendly and did not impede my game. One even helped me locate the next basket. Thirdly, about every other map station by the tee pads was vandalized and missing the hole map/information. Despite these problems, I think this course would have been enjoyable had I been with a local who was familiar...

Well let's see I've been hearing alot about mountain lion attacks. An I was about to ride through here in pitch black. My buddy was ahead of me I told him are we riding through here " no lights" he says yeah. Well next I tell him okay well either go really fast because "I'm not getting eaten by a mountain lion". He laughs at me and he was last out I promise that. He stayed far to the right. Because he knew I was gonna go fast. What could I say I'm from Los Angeles " we don't have this kind of wilderness around us. If I see where I was the other night heading to conifer I believe that's how u spell it. Yeah we don't have drives that scary where u " don't look down. That time I was like thank you "pitch black". Until morning when we left buddies house and I closed my eyes and pictured happy thoughts and places. Yeah memories they'll...

Disc golf course is pretty good until you reach around hole 11 when you have to throw over the creek and try not to land on the lightrail station. This course is not for beginners and almost too hard for the average intermediate player as most holes are above 350'. I recommend turning around early before you travel too far down the gulch as it gets hairy when you have to not go in people's yards, the lightrail, or hit cars on parking lots. This course could be dramatically improved if they made it shorter and placed some of the holes in an area where you didn't have to cross a bridge, backtrack where you just came from and then go back again in the opposite direction. There are hobo camps and you will definitely be in some less than favorable areas of town. Don't go on a hot day. Baskets are inconsistent types and sometimes...
