We thought about giving 1 star or not reviewing at all but we want you know about our experience at Sploot so you can make an informed decision. (Also Sploot has been buying ads against our profiles so it reminded us to write this review and block their ads.)
First off, the staff at the Julian St. location are nice and seem to care so we gave a 2 star rating for that. Regardless, we are so happy we left Sploot for another practice. Our senior cat requires ongoing care and we did not feel like Sploot was equipped to help us or care for her as well as we wanted. Our first visit with our new provider opened up our eyes to what we were missing. Honest, caring and tender people who really take time to understand you, your family and your pet. Sploot is super transactional, cold and corporate.
Issues we faced while going to Sploot over ~2 years: Lack of consistency in doctors and staff (we rarely saw the same provider) Difficulty in booking appointments and confusion over timing (because they seem to use a central booking staff, you can't actually talk to the staff at your pet's location so you end up waiting or going back and forth on why you need an appointment and the type of appointment) Staff not knowing why we are there or what tests are being run (even though you've made an appointment at their request, i.e. come back in 3 months to get x test). Sploot reaches out asking to setup next blood work appointment but then cannot schedule an appointment that far out so you wasted time going back and forth to find an opening in your calendar for no reason Lack of knowledge of what tests are being done and why (the vet may not come back into the room after an initial quick chat) Changing of plans during the visit after we agree on the plan Cost of tests and visits have gone up a lot in 2 years (though they're transparent about their high prices) Mistakes on paperwork where one cat’s names on another’s test results
To be transparent, we did share this feedback with the Sploot Business Operations Manager and she did reply. Her reply was lacking and did not convince us to keep our business...
Read morePlease don’t go here. I took my dog to this vet because he was throwing up & refusing to eat. After waiting over four hours, I was told he was anemic & had cancer. Naturally, I was devastated. I repeatedly asked if there could be another explanation—perhaps a reaction to a medication he had received the day before, or some other cause for his symptoms & abnormal blood work. The veterinarian was adamant: "No." She urged I take him to an emergency hospital for overnight monitoring, where they could perform an ultrasound the following morning to examine his heart, chest, & stomach. Again, I pressed for any possibility it could be something less severe. Each time, the response was a firm "No." Two days later, after seeking a second opinion, I learned my dog had a simple stomach ache. No cancer. No dire prognosis. Just a stomachache (yes severe but like NOT cancer)
When I brought my concerns to the clinic, I was met with indifference. After speaking to four different staff members including owners—each conversation lasting more than an hour—I was told the clinic stood by their veterinarian’s process, but they apologized for her "bad tone." Bad tone? She told me my dog had cancer!
Despite their egregious misdiagnosis & the immense emotional & financial toll it caused, they offered only a minimal refund on a substantial bill. This was not just a case of poor communication—it was a failure of professionalism & competence.
I strongly urge pet owners to avoid this clinic. Their rush to diagnose something as life-altering as cancer without exploring other possibilities is not only negligent but dangerous. No pet owner should have to endure this kind of stress & heartbreak when it could easily be avoided.
The owner mentioned over the phone that they would investigate further using the AI capabilities installed in their rooms. What does that even mean? Are they recording us or watching us? Honestly, I hope they are so they can see how awful the experience was, though it’s also a...
Read moreI acknowledge that the people I encountered working here were friendly and that my dogs reaction to a medication they prescribed was not Within their control. However, the fact that they prescribed Simparica Trio to a breeding female and her pup that may be bred in the future was negligent and shows a lack of knowledge/attention to detail that is unacceptable. Their team was responsive when the pup (6 mos) developed tremors after taking S-T, obviously reacting to the neurotoxin it contains. When the tremors continued a few days later, I returned to discuss the possibility of a lipid IV flush (which I’d read is standard ER response to lasting or extremes adverse reactions to a lipid-soluble neurotoxin) and the doc didn’t seem to know what I was talking about. Her experience came from shelters but still? I blame myself as well for taking the med they carry on site when my dogs have never had fleas or ticks and I asked for simple heartworm preventative. Strike one but I hung in there because they were nice and responsive to the problem. Then came the next visit with a tech for 2nd in a series of vaccines. They took the pup in the back saying it might help if she was being snippy in my presence (I now know That’s code for we’re gonna put a muzzle on her) and when they returned, I was told that she would need to be sedated before coming back and given a prescription for the sedative. This is a dog that has been handled by different people in the grooming, world and beyond, and has not only never been reported to be snippy, but been applauded for how amazingly easy she is. Obviously the tech was either shook up by a previous appointment or unlikable to this sweet puppy. I don’t know, but too many negatives tipped the scale and I won’t...
