Had a terrible experience this week with the Rapid Pickup service at this location. My husband and I were supposed to take dinner to our friends (brand new parents - and their family - freshly home from the hospital) so we placed an order online several hours before we needed to pick it up. Upon our arrival at the store, there was nothing waiting on the Rapid Pickup shelves. After several minutes of waiting for an employee to offer to help us (everyone, including the cashiers at the front of the store and the employees in the kitchen ignored us), I interrupted someone who was making a sandwich to ask about our order. This employee called for the manager, James, who took several minutes to come out of the back of the store. James concluded that despite our having received an email confirmation for our order, it was never logged in their system. He also explained that they were sold out of many of the items that we had ordered, so completing our entire order was not even possible.
Our order initially included 15 items (we were picking up for 6 people) and was cut down to 10 after we eliminated the items they didn't have in stock. It took 20 minutes for the staff to make those 10 items, so we spent a total of 30 minutes in the store figuring out the problem and waiting for food to be made. In the meantime, at least 5 other guests returned to the food counter complaining that their order had been made incorrectly (a small salad instead of a large, wrong bread, wrong cheese, wrong order altogether). Clearly, attention to detail needs improvement.
We asked for a refund, but James told us that he was unauthorized to make refunds. We asked to speak to a district manager at the time of our departure and James assured us that someone would call us yesterday to discuss our complaints. That hasn't happened.
We were 30 minutes late to drop off dinner for our friends because of this disappointing situation. It would have been faster to simply come to the store and order through regular methods...and then maybe we could have known what items were out of stock before we...
Read moreLet's be honest. This review doesn't matter. You either love Panera and you're going to eat there... or you don't like Panera and you've also made up your mind.
Having said that - I've tried to report issues to Panera with my orders with no response. So here we are.
I stopped ordering from this location a few months ago because they simply couldn't get the order right. The receipt from the order is right on the back. I can check that it was ordered correctly. It shows me what is supposed to be in the bag.
5 straight delivery orders were wrong before I stopped ordering. There are essentially 4 components to this meal. A sandwich, a soup, a baguette, and a drink. Only 4. On five consecutive occasions they found a different way to mess up the meal. It's really quite impressive. Sometimes the drink is wrong. Sometimes they forget the drink. Sometimes the soup is wrong. Sometimes they forget to include the baguette.
I pretty much gave up. But after a few months I found myself craving some Mac and Cheese today. I just couldn't resist. "Perhaps they have new leadership" I thought. Maybe they've fixed some processes. Sure, they never responded to my previous feedback, but maybe they at least saw it and reviewed their performance.
NOPE. My meal arrived today without the baguette. Is that a big deal? Of course not. It's almost comical. I blame myself. Much like a cheating ex - I thought maybe they could change. My mistake. This is just what this business is. That's fine. I mostly blame myself.
Should I continue to spend $25 on a meal that is never right? Of course not. Should I continue to support a corporate restaurant that won't respond when I report an issue? Of course not. Will this review change anything? Of course not.
But here we are. Godspeed Panera. It wasn't actually fun at all while it lasted. For those that choose to keep playing the Panera delivery game of chance - good luck. Maybe you'll enjoy the mystery of never quite knowing what is in the bag. If that's the case - man is this the...
