In the dental profession, you work for hours on end hunched over in a space the size of a baseball or less with a viewpoint the size of quarter or a dime. These occupational hazards eventually take a toll on the body. I've seen quite a few colleagues get sidelined or forced into early retirement due to these occupational hazards. I am in my 40's and in ok shape. When you're young, you don't realize the importance of sitting properly or ergonomics. Last summer, my back gave out..didn't lift anything heavy or any injury..just herniated my L4-L5. Saw a local chiropractor near where I live in Bergen County and eventually got it treated and healed. Shortly after, my left shoulder started hurting and I developed tingling in my arm and hand. I went back to the chiropractor I saw for my back and tried to have it treated. I was getting frustrated because nothing was working for my shoulder as time passed by and it got a little worse. I started to worry because dentistry is my passion and livelihood. I have a family and staff that depends on me. If I can't work, we're all screwed. I did some research to find exercises or stretches to try to help my shoulder and I stumbled upon videos of Barefoot Rehabilitation Clinic. The video that stood out to me was the time Dr. Chris Stepien was on News 12 and discussed different aspects of his treatment and his philosophy behind it. I did more research online about him, the doctors, and the practice and looked at pretty much all the videos and testimonials. I was desperate because I was in pain and my career was in jeopardy. I had a slight glimmer of hope after looking into everything. I made the phone call and setup the initial consultation. One of the best decisions I made for my health. It saved my career. The entire office is great. The office itself is comfortable, pleasant, and cozy. Everybody from the front office staff (Greg, Amber) to the doctors and assistants (Dr. Nina, Steven, and the rest) are excellent. The place is like Cheers...everybody knows your name. They treat you like they have known you for years as soon you walk through the door and make you feel welcome. Very professional, friendly, and courteous. The doctors and assistants know their stuff. Dr. Nina assessed my issue and put me on a path of treatment. She specializes in the shoulder joint, so I was in great hands. I have a high threshold for pain and discomfort..so when I started seeing her for my shoulder issue and tingling..it was 6 out of 10 on the pain scale..10 being the worst. After a few months of therapy, I am at practically almost 0 for discomfort and the tingling in my arm and hand is almost completely resolved. She is an excellent doctor. I also had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Stepien one time because he happened to be assisting Dr. Nina during one of my visits. Great guy and doctor. You can feel his passion and enthusiasm in the way the office is run and how the care is given. I travel 30 minutes from where I live to see Dr. Nina and the office. They are worth every minute of my time and every penny. You cannot put a price on your health and well-being. If you're on the fence, do not waste your time hesitating. Just move quickly and call them. They will help you as they did for me. Thank you Dr. Nina, Steven, and the rest for saving my career. I am indebted to you all. Also, make sure you have their chocolate covered almonds...great stuff. Will help in your recovery! Thank...

Read moreI would highly recommend this clinic to anyone with an open mind who might be feeling unheard, confused, or frustrated in their pursuit of pain-relief. The staff at Barefoot Rehab is genuinely committed to partnering with patients to work towards resolution of their chronic pain. Despite this, they are always in an utterly fantastic mood. Fortunately, it’s infectious. The staff go to great lengths to create a positive environment for patients and promote a truly holistic approach to healing (physical, emotional, psychological). The doctors I worked with were empathetic to my initial concerns, but forthcoming and transparent in their assessment of my condition from the very first appointment. They set clear expectations and gave me the guidance and support I needed to be an active participant in my own treatment plan. Whenever possible, they tried to benchmark and measure progress using both quantitative (scoring scales, measurements) and qualitative (notes) means. All of this information was COMPLETELY transparent and discussed with me directly at each appointment. Treatment sessions were always on time, professional, and efficient. It was very impressive - I have never seen a healthcare clinic run as seamlessly as this one. I stumbled into this clinic after 3 years of chronic glute and lower back pain that had been getting progressively worse, without a clear diagnosis from half a dozen doctors/therapists, unable to sit through a full workday, and trying not to get my hopes up. After undergoing treatment and holding up my end of the bargain, I finally saw significant and lasting improvement in my symptoms. Today, I no longer feel like a helpless victim and I have grown to appreciate the cumulative impact that small, targeted changes in behavior can make. Despite disc issues which may never fully resolve, I can now sit all day without back pain and have been able to exercise again without further aggravating my symptoms. In addition, my back pain has dissociated from my hip/glute pain for the first time in years. As an unexpected bonus, there have been spillover effects. I found that the treatment plan has improved my overall well-being by promoting better self-awareness. Unconventional suggestions, such as daily meditation, have made a bigger difference than I would have expected, which was a pleasant surprise. I hope to see more clinics like this one in the future and would strongly recommend giving them a call if you have unresolved...
