I have nothing but 5 stars for the food from this well established local shop. Proof? My wife and I have had a weekly “date” to get take out lunches and enjoy them at home for over two years. Our bill has been over $25 every week, often approaching $40 if we get bisque or chowder for dinner too. However, two weeks ago my love affair with these folks ended and I will never go back. I ordered our usual lunch with a quart of shrimp bisque and asked for two small packets of oyster crackers. They always put a pack of crackers in when the order is for a small 1 pint of soup/chowder which is sold warm. Because I ordered a quart of shrimp bisque it came cold and when I asked for two packets of crackers, the manager … her name may be Mary … ordered the counter person not to give them to me … her nasty order was “we don’t give crackers for cold soup”… Hmmm. I figured it out. I probably have spent between $3,000 and $3,500 over the past two years on our Friday “dates”. I even feel guilty if I have to work and miss a Friday (rare for sure). But being refused two packs of oyster crackers … value at most 50cents … tells me my loyalty was misplaced so I left and promised myself I’ll find a another restaurant that knows how to treat loyal customers … good bye and good luck. I’m never...
Read moreIf you like seafood, this is the place to go in the Morristown area. The food was good, our server was knowledgeable and attentive, the dining area clean and attractive. We started with an order of steamers: perfectly prepared and delicious. My wife had the lobster roll. Here I get into one of my pet peeves about reviews. I saw several reviewers complain about the size of lobster dishes. My wife loved her lobster roll, but wished it were a little bigger. At $14, I thought it was about right. If you want to get a "loaded" lobster roll, compare it to prices around: they're easily doubled. So this lobster roll was a fair value for a fair price. I had fish and chips. This is my go to base line order when I go to a new seafood place. The fish was delicious and fresh, perfectly crunchy and moist, and the chips were great: I ate more of them than I should have. Too good! Very fresh, excellent meal. This brings me to another pet peeve. I saw a review in which the author says the fish was bland and she knows what it should taste like. I know fish, and I know fish joints. Good fish doesn't taste like fish (right?). There are lots of lesser places that put sauces or spices on to move less fresh product. Denville Seafood checks all the boxes for a great...
Read moreWe moved to Morris County about 4 years ago, and even though we don't eat out every night, we like to try new places in the area for special occasions. This past Valentine's Day we decided to try Codmother's Cafe, which is an extension of Denville Seafood, where we usually get our fresh ingredients for our Italian Christmas Eve dinner with family and friends. Well, let me tell you that you'll be pleasantly surprised from the time you walk through the door: a delicious smell of fresh fish will make your brain think that you've just walked through a space tunnel and ended up on some oceanside restaurant somewhere in Florida. The decor shows a nice touch throughout, from light fixture to picture frames on the wall. But let's be honest, you haven't come here to look at cute pictures. You've come to eat some tasty fish dishes. And you won't be disappointed. I had the shrimp and scallop scampi, while my wife got their Chilean sea bass. Both dishes were tasty, with average portions and not too much sauces or condiments, just like Italians like it. Prices are surprisingly affordable: we ended up spending $80 including desserts and tip. And if Joanna is your server, you're absolutely...
