The food at this restaurant was absolutely amazing, but unfortunately, the service we received from our waitress was extremely disappointing. From the moment we sat down, she seemed to be rushing us. When I asked for her food recommendations, she rolled her eyes, and as soon as we placed our order, she took away all the menus—even though we specifically asked to keep one set.
We ordered two appetizers, and before we had even finished them, she attempted to clear the plates to bring out our main courses. When we told her we were still eating, she appeared visibly annoyed. Once our entrées arrived, she repeatedly came to check if we were finished, making us feel pressured to hurry.
My husband wanted dessert, but since we no longer had a menu, he grabbed one from an empty table nearby. He ordered fried ice cream and lava cake, but when the waitress returned, she once again rolled her eyes at us. Shortly after, we overheard another couple at the next table sharing a similar experience. They mentioned that she was rushing them to order, constantly clearing their table, and making them feel so uncomfortable that they packed most of their food to go. It was disheartening to hear that this was supposed to be their Valentine’s outing, yet they were treated so poorly.
When they asked for a dessert menu, the waitress bluntly told them there wasn’t one, only listing fried ice cream, lava cake, and crème brûlée. However, since we had seen the menu earlier, we knew there were more options. It was clear she wasn’t being truthful.
To make matters worse, as I was still eating my dessert, she came by to clear the table. I told her I wasn’t finished, yet she returned just two minutes later and made a loud announcement to both our table and the other couple’s, stating that we needed to leave. This was particularly frustrating because when we arrived, she confirmed there were no reservations after us.
I completely understand that Saturday nights can be busy, but this is not how customers should be treated. This restaurant offers fantastic food, but the service from this particular waitress was unacceptable and truly diminished our dining experience.
Both our families had kids presented with us at the restaurant. We had a toddler and the other couple had two kids with them. It was a very unfortunate experience for us as we were trying to get a break from our busy lives and this one person ruins it...
Read moreIt takes one person to ruin the reputation of a business. In Tonglor, it is the woman who seemed like a senior server or manager at the restaurant.
We have dined here once and the experience is okay. It is good because of the restaurant ambiance and decor. Service is okay. Serving is huge so definitely more value for your money. Food is okay, not superb and definitely not better than the long time Thai restaurant in the area. But it’s a new kid on the block, and we like supporting local businesses, so why not share the market pie between Tonglor and Thai Nam Phet.
One time, we have visitors from out of town and while we have eaten lunch somewhere else, I suggested to have some afternoon appetizers and dessert at Tonglor so they can see the place too. I was freely advertising the place. But the moment we came in, we were greeted by the attitude of this woman. The other servers were very gracious to welcome us and look at us eye to eye. However, the woman spoke to the gracious lady in their language without looking at us and with a face that screams “I hate my job and I’m supposed to be taking a break, but then you had to come in!”
We were seated, given menus and served water. When we ordered the appetizers and dessert. This woman gave us her incredibly shocked face and said, “is that all you’re ordering?” We said oh yes, we’re just going to have appetizers and dessert. She then smirked and frowned, and said they don’t serve just appetizers and dessert, it has to be a full meal. Really? We would’ve have wanted to ask for her for the logic, but realized, it’s just not worthy to give her any more of our time and we left.
Never coming back and told the experience with all of our friends in the community. Giving the business back to Thai Nam Phet which is more authentic and who have set the standard for...
Read moreIt is located in the heart of Downtown Denville. they decorated the restaurant beautifully with a Christmas theme. Hanging artifacts make it more beautiful.
We did not have reservations but found the table quickly.
the menu was quite simple and easy to understand, and no fancy words to make it look like an exquisite restaurant, hahaha...
We ordered-
Thai wings: Typical deep-fried wings, nothing special about it, just their Thai sauce spread over it. 3/5 Spring Roll: typical deep-fried spring rolls, in fact, they fried in used oil- you can smell it.
Now here comes the main food-
Basil Fried Chicken Rice: it was spicy but I thoroughly enjoyed it. a mix of everything and they put loads of chicken
Basil Spaghetti Shrimp Noodle- shrimp should be more sautéed but it was good.
Drunk Man (drunken) Chicken Noodle: Rice noodles with onion, and bell pepper- it was one of the best drunken noodles my wife had and I could see her happiness after finishing the meal.
Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice- though it had pineapple, it was good too.
overall, the main course was just amazing, Authentic Thai cuisine. it felt like a soothing place, with no noise, a beautiful ambiance, a couple of servers taking care of all the customers, and service was equally good. If you are in Denville downtown, I would recommend it...
In fact, I am planning to host my office party here... I loved it.
